People are obviously very excited about the iPhone. So are all of us. But people are forgetting the first rule of any Apple rumours and relying on / reporting any piece of information regardless of whether or not the source has any reason to be reliable.
Further, people are getting way too carried away in posting advice in relation to members questions. Its great that people want to help each other, but if someone's already answered the query (correctly), and you have nothing more to add, there's no need to say anything! And if you don't know what you're talking about, don't say anything either! The number of questions answered by people who are clearly uninformed or who have not thought twice about what they're posting is staggering at the moment.
It feels like this is what is also giving rise to the increasing anger amongst a number of posters who have been uncharacteristically aggressive lately - which in itself is not acceptable, but it would be nice to remedy both the cause and the effects of the aggression.
People need to calm down and think through the following before they post:
- What do I want to say?
- Has what I wanted to say been said before? (Read the thread and do a forum search)
- If it has, does what I want to say need to be said again? (Are you sure that it adds or corrects anything that has been said before? Does it reflect a person anecdote or opinion, or does it simply restate something that has been said before?)
- If yes, which thread should I post it in? (Do a forum search and think carefully about whether or not you really need to post a new thread).
- Have I said it clearly, so that other members understand what I'm saying? (Read it back to yourself)
- Have I said it in a way that does not insult or directly offend anyone? (If so, simply edit the bit you think might be on the nose)
A simple process, which if followed, would make this place much more enjoyable for all.
