hey, maybe its the alpha blending? I have no idea. But its definitely not cool on anything less than a intel mac.

Phase, are you telling me you can't see ANY difference in speed resizing the mactalk homepage compared to resizing a forums page? Really? Because I can. Even on my mac pro. Its very slight, but its there.

I must concur, on my G4 Powerbook 1.5/1.25 the mactalk site looks great but scrolling down makes it feel "heavy". It seems ironic to have a mac-centric site that taxes the PPC machines so heavily. They're old but I didn't think *that* old.

I remember even in recent times that Amiga and Atari usergroup sites kept their sites old tech-friendly on their respective platforms (okay, old tech and also those sites looked bloody terrible) but it's a nice touch - the intent was there. I will say apple's own pages work famously on my machine, so if they can still do it, (and they have more to gain from reminding me about upgrading) ...

By the way, the overall mactalk design is just great. As a designer I do appeciate the transparency overlays as well, very neat technically, but they do carry a CPU/RAM penalty somewhat.

As an aside, between say 98-2004 sites got more complex without seeming to bog down older machines, but with horrible Adobe flash PPC support and a few other things the last few years (2006 --> ) have seen a huge gap developing in accessability and useability. The tech is lovely but taxing.

Just my 2c.

Looking forward to the forum being optimized for iPhone again, if that's in the pipeline?

Tried visiting from your iPhone?

Click the image to open in full size.

Only issue is that you can't actually post stuff...

Works awesome for viewing, however

When the iPhone skin is working again (whenever Mr. Chrome has time - he's a busy man), it will automatically take you to the iphone version of the forums if you're on the phone.

The iPhone theme itself is not the best, but it's better than nothing I guess.

I bookmarked the iPhone skin on my old iPhone but now that I've started afresh with the 3GS I can't find the dropdown link anymore... Where do I find it again?

I'd have thought that it would be as simple for you as it was for me to discover that vbulletin v4 has not been released yet.

As it's been stated that the site will not roll to the new version until then it's highly unlikely that anything has been done.

Check the version of vbulletin here it shows clearly on the left side the current version.
