One feature that seems to work well on other forums is a positive points system, like the "do something wrong and you get 20 points, get 100 and you're outta here" system but the opposite. Then the posts might be of a better quality, and it would be good to see the top helpers/contributors on MacTalk (a reward system would also be good, but don't make the reward too major or people will start forging points).

i agree, people making the forums a better place by reporting spammers etc should be encouraged with rewards

maybe a mactalk sticker every 5 valid spam reports

Dont know if this had been mentioned before, probably has... MacTalk should have a Premium Membership where you pay and get like a "mactalk supporter" logo in your name area and other benefits like access to a private sub forum etc.

That way people can give back by paying like a $1 a month or a yearly subscription.

We initially had it turned off as it fucked with the theme we had installed. obviously there's no theme now, so I will turn it back on temporarily until our new theme is installed. If it works with the new theme, it'll stay, but yeah - can't promise anything.

I like everyone having the same access and being equally able to contribute. A premium membership doesn't really appeal to me, and I don't want to create a lower-class of members or anything like that.

ok first of all the new reboot of the site, at least on the front page seems to be a runaway success. congrats.

Request 1)
I would like to request that Meet the Mactalkers cops some new imagery inline with the Podcasts.

Request 2) I would also like to propose that Meet The MacTalkers gets a suggestions Sticky of it's own that can be used as a one stop shop instead of having me constantly bouncing around the place like a bouncy ball (albeit on dial-up) to figure out who asked for what when and when it was implemented. (really just a unification of interaction)

Query 1) is MacTalk going to receive a reskin for the forums proper? i must say the former skin we had before the crash was superb.

Hello,

I do not know if this has been asked before but a nice forum skin would look nice. as the default vbulletin skins is getting old and is over used

Also maybe a premium membership where we can pay x amount pre-month, to get into a group with a nice colour user name and a little forum for premium members only. That will help you guys pay for the server etc and it would be anther why for us to donate.

Thank you,
Chris (aka theapplestuff)

Meet the MacTalkers is currently under review - it will probably come back, but in a different guise. For now, it's on hiatus.

The forum skin is complete (see this up here on Flickr: MacTalk Forum Design - a set on Flickr) but we are waiting for vBulletin 4.0 to be released, as if we spend time making the theme for the current version, in a few weeks, we'll have to do it again for vBulletin 4.0. May as well wait and do it for 4.0 the first time.

We already have a members-only forum for the podcast, which is just a little section for me to share exclusive content with those who donate to support the podcast. I don't want to dilute the main conversation on Apple stuff, so a "premium" membership for MacTalk in general, will not happen.

I reckon all MacTalkers worth meeting and willing to participate have been met, as evidenced by the trouble finding the new candidates during all of the latter episodes.

Cheers
Steffen.

That's one of the things taken into consideration, amongst others. Some people think it's incredibly self-righteous to profile our own members and talk ourselves up like that. Some think it's great to get to know people on the forums. Just gotta decide if the effort is worth the gain.

I think they're great for getting to know people.

Other members become more than just "That guy with the Big Mac avatar"

I'm glad it's here at all - just noticed that you had mentioned it - cool. Love this feature along with the Live Post Spy, also known as iSpy

EDIT: it's not working.... do i have to turn it on?

Working fine here. iSpy, that is.

Maybe check if you have it paused?
