Can we add an option for "none of the above" or "I follow real football"?

Rename to "Which VFL team do you support"! :P

As for me, I go for the Eagles, the Bombers and the Dockers.

pfft way to only list Victorian teams! you do realise that non Vic teams won the flag from 2001-06? also the SANFL is a lot more competitive and popular than the VFL.

Good to see so many Blues supporters in here!
Makes sense of course - quality people, quality football team / club, would mean they would have quality I.T. tastes being Mac!!!!!

I'm moving back to Melbourne and I need to choose a team, how does one go about doing this? I only went to one game last time I lived there - Essendon and St Kilda I think. This time I want to go to heaps of games and support a team. I know people will tell me left right and centre who I SHOULD support, but how does a newcomer actually decide for themselves? Whats the criteria?

Maybe we need a new poll...

"Which non-Victorian football team (or code!) do you follow!"

I imagine most people start supporting a team from a young age when either they follow a team because the rest of their family does, or they pick a team that they "like" (and because when you are very young you aren't really objective, that could be from having a favourite player from that team or something like that).

I'm not really sure how as an adult you decide on a team to support. I suppose one option is to pick your "local" team, but in this day and age it doesn't really work like that (besides Geelong, all the Victorian teams play at MCG or Telstra Dome, no more suburban grounds) unless you live outside of Victoria.

It sounds to me like you have a closer affiliation to Essendon and St Kilda than the other teams, seeing you actually went to that match (for whatever reason). You should probably pick between one of those two teams.

I came to Melbourne as an adult and ignored the footy for as long as I could. Eventually I started appreciating various good-looking players (for their skills....no, really) but in the end I picked my team based on where I live - St Kilda. Seems to be working out nicely.
