Default Twitter on Channel 9 Sydney News Tonight

I just saw an ad for tonight's Channel 9 news in Sydney, and it mentioned that they will be "telling you all you need to know about Twitter, the new internet sensation".

Looks like Twitter is definitely going mainstream.

New? That means 9 has only just discovered it. I wonder when they will find IRC?

There was an article in the Sydney Morning Herald yesterday about it as well. It has been around for 3 years though, but I suppose it's better now then never.

The Age reported not long ago that Twitter had over a 500% increase in traffic in last year for Australia making it the fastest growing website here.

It was about 200%-300% growth in the states but that was still enough to also take top spot.

I watched it. As would be expected from Channel 9 News, the discussion was fairly superficial. It gave a basic outline of what it is about, had a quick interview with the founder, noted that they are <EDIT: not> making any money and had MC Hammer talking about how good it was to cut out the middle man.

The idea is it just focuses on what you are doing, not how good you look or how many groups you have joined. Just keeping it simple.

Twitter is like if you took facebook, stretched the status update into the wall, then got rid of all the other crap like groups, quizzes, other stupid time wasting apps and causes.

Twitter is the way forward.

I am not kidding. I did think that is was somewhat ironic that of all the celebrities that they could have picked, they would use an old washed out rapper from the 80s. So much for Channel 9 being on the cutting edge of technology issues.
