I do. I bought some of the cheapy earphone foams for my earbuds and have different colours on both of them so I can easily differentiate (and it also helps keep them sitting nicely in my slightly oversized ears).

It doesn't necessarily mean it will sound bad, it's just not how the mix was intended to be heard.
You'll still be getting a true stereo image, completely in phase. It'll just be the wrong way around :P

If I have them reversed, that is L in R and R in L, then the track sounds muffled or generally crappy. However if they're in the correct ears, then the track sounds fine.

Maybe I just have screwy hearing, but it makes all the difference for me.

I wouldn't expect anything less from you... though it'd be way sexier if one shoved both of them ... up...

... their nostrils.

True... and that doesn't matter much with most music.

It would sound a bit odd with movies though... a jet flies left to right on the screen strafing the soldiers and the sound moves right to left

I've still got a pair of the older style plugs that aren't symetrical and just feel odd if they're the wrong way round. With my newer style plugs I didn't even realised they were labelled until after the first few months of use!

I'm obsessive compulsive about putting them in the right ears.

Even at night, when theres no light at all, I will actually get up and turn the light on just to see if they're in the right ear.

uhm yeah of course.
There's a little thing involved in music production called the STEREO MIX.
otherwise i'd be rocking an ear peice on a coily white string wire jammed into a transistor radio listenin to race 8 at harold park .

I left the Apple headphones in the box on my newer iPod, the old style had poor audio quality and it was easy to wear them wrong.

At the moment I'm using Phillips in-ear headphones which are designed to fit L or R, impossible to put them on wrong. My noise canceling Sony in-ears can be mixed up.

That is true... odd to think about though... I guess our brain doesn't really care what is left and what is right when it comes to music.

I put them in my nostrils (observing L and R of course). This is a tip a doctor once gave me to prevent hearing loss...

Cheers
Steffen.

I actually find they sit better in my ears the other way around. 'L' in right 'R' in left.

If you own some Ultimate Ears IEMs, they actually suggest an alternate way of wearing them, where you unplug the wires and switch them around, as for some people it results in a better fit.

Wow not a single comment about the mic on the Apple headphones. I don't bother checking the lettering on the speakers rather, while sliding my fingers over the cable i feel the mic/button bit and put that speaker in my right ear.
