Default RIP Richard Wright

I don't know how I missed this in my morning RSS feeds. Haven't heard it in the mainstream media either, was just told by my old man and am devastated.

Anyway, yesterday, Pink Floyd's Rick Wright passed away after a short struggle with cancer.

This is shocking news to a huge Pink Floyd fan like myself, Rick was an absolute legend and will be truly missed.

RIP Rick.

I'm really disappointed by this too. Strangely, I was watching the 'Classic Albums' doco on PF last night.

I wuz a Floyd freak when a teenager. Wright's keyboard work is a major part of their music, particularly the style and atmosphere.

RIP.

My girlfriend had her inflatable pig arrive in the mail today (long story - uni thing) but didn't understand the reference I made to loving Pink Floyd. I explained and then she remembered hearing that someone from Pink Floyd had died.

Your song is over Rick - RIP

Time
(Mason, Waters, Wright, Gilmour) 7:06

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way.
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way.

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain.
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you.
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.

So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again.
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older,
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death.

Every year is getting shorter never seem to find the time.
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over,
Thought I'd something more to say.

I heard it on ABC news radio this morning. When I started iTunes and hit random the first thing that played was a Floyd song.

Shine on.

Pink Floyd got me through some really tough times. This is sad news. Though I guess the good thing is that their music is timeless so he will certainly live on through that.

Goodbye cruel world,
I'm leaving you today.
Goodbye,
Goodbye,
Goodbye.

Goodbye, all you people,
There's nothing you can say
To make me change my mind.
Goodbye.

I'm going to see the Pink Floyd Experience at Hamer Hall (Arts Centre in Melbourne) on Friday so my mind was already kind of Floyd focused this week.

Pretty sad.

Sad news indeed. RIP Sir Richard.

My favourite Floyd song has been and ever shall be Comfortably Numb.

To young to die.
Cancer is such an awlfull way to go.
Two ironic things, pink floyd reunited then disbanded again in one night. A kind of full circle achievement.
Wright toured with gilmour on his on an island tour where they sang echoes together.
He was quoted as saying it was his favorite tour ever and gilmour has said he was playing better than he ever had, he in his words had got his sparkle back.

To hear some of his final work with gilmour check out
Amazon.com: On an Island: David Gilmour: Music Fantastic album with wright very prominate
Amazon.com: David Gilmour: Remember That Night - Live At The Royal Albert Hall [Blu-ray]: David Gilmour, david mallet: Music Live dvd with echoes and the whole of on an island live

Amazon.com: Live In Gdansk (2 CD/2 DVD): David Gilmour: Music Live gdansk live dvd+cd gilmour and wright in gdansk with a full symphony orchestra, spectacular show.
