Default What Hotel on the Gold Coast?

Hi all,

In January next year i will be heading off on my Honeymoon, and am planning on going to the Gold Coast for a few days.

The massive amount of hotels at the Gold Coast is simply bewildering. I wouldn't have the slightest clue where to begin looking.

Are there any hotels which you would recommend on the Gold Coast? Any you would advise that i steer clear of?

(Yes, i realise that there are dedicated travel websites out there, but they are usually pretty useless, and i much prefer personal opinions!)

Thanks,

Tom

Songbirds looks quite nice, or there's always q1 for the view!

Versace... expensive but really nice.

I also like the Sheraton (on The Spit) or Seaworld Nara resort.

Don't stay in or near Surfers, the ones I've outlined are all near each other on The Spit and the beach is near by and you can get to Surfers if you really want to...

Where do you specifically want to stay?

You are also coming in the busiest time of the year, so book early!

Surfers Paradise
Q1 - central location, very nice hotel, superb view!
Circle on Cavill - central location, below are many restaurants, just off the strip.
Vibe Hotel - haven't personally been here but any heard wonderful reviews.
Marriot - Stunning hotel, great resort pool, not in the center of surfers but walkable.

Broadbeach
Oceana on Broadbeach - Views of the ocean, Close to shops and beach , haven't seen rooms in person.
Conrad Jupiters - Very nice rooms, acorss the road from Pacific Fair and Broadbeach.
Sofitel Gold Coast - Amazing suites, allround stunner of a hotel, nice restaurant in hotel, room 81 (cocktail/bar lounge with DJs), they do great
packages. Walking distance to Casino, Entertainment Centre and Broadbeach Mall. Access to the monorail.

Either of these places you'll have direct access to the beach, restaurants, shopping malls, casino
by walking or bus. There are buses to Sea World and Australia Fair, Pacific Fair (shopping) etc.

Surfers is tacky, and after 8pm, full of drunk dickheads that carry on like you wouldn't believe.

You want to stay somewhere nice... Main Beach/The Spit is the place, close to the beach and away from Surfers.

As BCains said, Broadbeach is a good choice as well (south of Surfers) - lots of good restaurants and bars.

I lived on the Gold Coast for 4 years and could count on one hand the number of times I went into Surfers at night, there are so many better places on the coast.

Would we be able to get a bus to the Theme Parks from Broadbeach?

Also, are there any modestly priced yet still decent restaurants in the area?

Stayed at Circle on Cavil last week. Really nice but the pools are in a really windy area. Great shops downstairs.

If you want to be right in the middle of it the Paradise Centre is above the main shopping centre right next to the beach. Get a high up floor since it gets a bit noisy at night. Very average pools but always in sunshine.

My favorite recently has been the Chevron Renaissance. Brilliant pool and felt really relaxing. Above good shops and only a short walk (2min) from plenty of clubs if that is what you are into.

Thanks so much for all your help, everybody!

It sounds like Broadbeach is the place for us, given that it is quiet(er). Not being near the clubs and pubs isn't an issue, it will be our honeymoon, after all!

Our budget is pretty tight, so we can't really afford to be spending any more than $240 per night on accommodation. Any suggestions on budget-conscious places to stay in Broadbeach?

We were faced with a similar decision not long ago, however not for a honeymoon.

We decided to stay in the Big4 caravan park in one of their holiday units with spa, queensize bed etc.

Not walking distance to Surfers, but not a bad place to stay at all if you're not fussed about staying in a high-rise.

Broardbeach is chockers full of restruants.

My favourite down there that is by no means expensive is Champagne in one of the motels, off the main drag (I think it's on Australia Ave). Cheap, awesome food, great dodgey french decor' and the chef comes out at the end to make sure you were happy with your meal.

Lots of other good cafe's and bars down there...

Sofitel Broadbeach - brother worked there for 2 or so years.., great place - used by a lot of celebrities (local & international) who visit the gold coast.

other than that, he says: Palazzo Versace Gold coast for the ultimate in luxury (Palazzo Versace Hotel Gold Coast Accommodation Luxury 5 Star Accommodation Main Beach Gold Coast Queensland)
