in terms of kate's freckles....well the first thing i noticed was that she was wearing make-up, something she's been without on the island....so its not unnatural for her to look like she has no freckles.

as for the funeral....interesting, i'm drawing blanks but i can surmise from what i've seen so far that:

1. it isn't locke - there's no way he'd leave the island.
2. it isn't sawyer - kate said something about having to go home because he'd be wondering where she is - i'm guessing "he" is sawyer...
3. it could be ben - as ben is with them at the radio tower and a prisoner of theirs, it could be leaves the island with the rest of the group.
4. since it's not penny's boat off the coast, perhaps michael has arranged for them to be rescued. and since walt has shown up we can either guess that there is a supernatural explanation for his appearance, or that walt has come back to the island with michael. if so, perhaps its michael's funeral back in america.

all in all, we still know nothing, perhaps even less than nothing. i'm in it for the long haul though, i've made it through 3 seasons now, so i can't quit without finding out the answers.

edit: ps, jack has plenty of grey in his full beard and his island stubble....
I thought walt was the "island" or jacob.. not walt the kid who left the island.

I'm starting to like that Mikhail character now.. zapped, shot at, that bastard refuses to die I'll be very very intrigued to see what happens in the final 3 seasons actually.

What makes Jack so pissed off about the dead man ?
If it was Ben, then he would be happy, but certainly not Ben.
His dad seems to be still alive.

What's with the 8-10 month wait for Lost and Prison Break ?!! This totally sucks.

Just finished watching the episode from iTunes and it was one of the best season finales I think I have ever watched.

I was literally on the edge of my seat when John had the gun at Jack, even though I knew he would not kill him as he couldn't kill his father.

Im curious as to who the people rescuing them were, and it was very clever how they tied in the flashbacks to the ending, I didn't even realise until I saw Kate come out the car, and thought "What are you doing there, you don't know eachother yet"

as per usual lost delivers more questions then answers,

now that we know they make it off the island, a different angle of the story will be interesting

flash forwards are certainly more interesting than those boring flash backs

Just got back in my submarine from the underwater MEDIA COMPANIES PROVIDE WHAT CUSTOMERS WANT Dharma station mid-way in the Pacific, on the edge of Hawaii's free-to-air TV broadcast range...

But Jack also had a prescription with his father's name on it for the drugs.

Could be that he was using his dead father's name but it seems more likely to me that his father was alive in whatever reality that was we were watching.

Mikael must be definitively dead this time. I can't imagine he was able to survive an underwater grenade blast in his hand.

That was a GREAT finale which made Heroes' look like a year 8's creative writing effort.

Go Hugo! 10 of the Others bastards iced, finally!

Well done Sawyer for denying Tom the opportunity to harm again! But what the hell is wrong with all the other survivors? If I were in that reality, and I had witnessed everything they'd done to me and mine, I would not turn my back on them for a second (like Locke did to Ben, like Desmond and Charlie did to Mikael etc. etc) and I would have little hesitation at plugging them tout de suite given the chance.

I'm hooked till the end now.

I watched it this morning and I was blown away, awesome stuff.

I reckon it is Juilet in the coffin and somewhere in between Jack and her didn't get together in the end. There was no one at th funeral parlour because the "others" are all dead or on the island and the saved never did really like her. Jack wants to get back to the island so he can finally kill Ben. Pyshcological manipulation does turn some people to addiction.

Sawyer and Syiad are my favourite Characters. Ruthless but precise in everything they do. I agree I would have not hesitated either.

I would have thought Charlie would have acted differently if he knew he was going to die. I know I would "try" to step very carefully and change the situation but if you believe in fate nothing can change the future and it is a TV show after all...

I don't think it is an alternate universe but I do think there is something special about the island which allows itself to be hidden, mysterious like the Bermuda triangle.

LOST is kind of like religion and great stories of all time. Humans always want to believe their is something bigger than them out there but there is always the skeptics but what people don't realise they see if they believe something is there. Every good story needs good and bad, a special force or being that is higher than the common person. eg. Starwars, Lord of the Rings etc.

That is part of why it is a good show but everyone wants to know the answers to the questions which draws you in even more.

Just watched this finale, found it very much enjoyable. It was hard to resist reading this thread before i got a chance to sit down and watch!

I'm sure it was Walt who came to Locke in the hole - the writers surely wouldn't pick somebody who looks so alike a previous character to play a new character! Walk is known to be 'special', the Others having quite a fixation on him and his habit of cropping up in 'spirit' form all over the island.

Another question to keep in mind regarding the 'multiple realities' theory is that the British woman was sure that all those on the flight had been found dead in the plane wreckage, in which case (presuming she was telling the truth) there needs to be at least 3 realities - the Island, Jack's flashforward and the intact, sunken plane wreckage.

Hmmmm

The writers keep on getting deeper into the story with every season - i sure do hope they have a good way out, even if we only get to witness it in 2010!

Didn't we have a main Lost thread somewhere? I've been searching but I can't find it.

So what do we think of Season Four Ep 1 which those of us with extreeeeeeeemely tall antennas were able to pick up on Friday?

As far as I'm concerned, it's back to everything that is Lost: fantastic storytelling, edge-of-seatness, confusing time shifts and a Wookie-like roar of frustration able to be heard half a mile away when the final LOST logo comes up on the screen with the sound of the gavel falling.
