She is only three weeks old. Bought "new" off the refurb section of the apple website.
Looked like it had never been used, although it came in the plain white box. Been working great, not missed a beat, liked it so much I purchased a brand new 24" imac.............
Anyhow I digress. Went to change the standard 2 x 1gb memory sticks with 2 x 2gb "mac" rated corsair memory.
As per instructions I slid the little lever on the right memory slot and it "popped" out easily, although it had what appeared to be corrosion on the gold pins (white substance). The left memory was another story. Same thing slid the lever to the left and nothing, it didnt budge.
While my wife held the lever to the left I was able to slowly wiggle the memory out, but it was very difficult to do so. I was about to leave it altogether and call apple support when it came out. It too had the same "corrosion" on it???
Having previously installed so-dimms in other notebooks I know that they can be difficult to remove and install.
Went to put new memory in and it would only go in about half way before it stopped. I wasnt about to force it so decided to have a look to see what was causing the problem. Initially it appeared to be a sticker stuck in there which appeared to have come off from the previous memory stick. I decided to get a torch so I could see it more clearly. It wasnt a sticker, but a silver covered or coated tiny little ribbon cable!
At that point I simply called apple care, explained to them what was the problem and they recommended 2 service centres. The first in Hurstville, the second in Wollongong.............
Seeing that Wollongong is closer I chose the second. I made it clear to them that there was not a mark on it, that I expected to come back in the same way I brought it in. After doing a search on these forums and the 3 page post from another user, I REALLY hope it does.
Applecare said they would not cover damage caused by the user......... will depend what the service centre thinks is/was/caused the problem.
Also I thought that by having Applecare warranty that I would get "premium" phone support, with the Australian help support, not overseas??? (I am not being racist, I find it very frustrating when the phone support does not understand what I am saying, obviously english is there second language). I wish companies wouldn't do that, but it is now the norm.
I REALLY dont need this in my life at the moment.
