Hi everyone. I've got a 5-6 year old Flat Panel 15" iMac — the dome model.
Over its lifetime it has sometimes been a bit 'flakey' with power issues. Over the years I would sometimes unplug the power lead from the wall in case of power surges etc. Sometimes it wouldn't respond immediately when I plugged it back in. I found that if I connected it to an extension cord or into a powerpoint that had just been used then it would power up. Sounds weird but true. I was a little concerned so I took it to my local Applecentre under warranty and it wouldn't repeat the problem for them!
A few days ago it was unplugged from the back of the computer and not the wall — something it hasn't always responded to that well. But now it won't power up at all. Zip.
I've tried (1) resetting the PMU (2) using a friend's power cord but with no success.
I've looked at a flat panel repair manual. I think the next thing I'll try is replacing the internal battery.
Any other thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks
