MacTalk Podcast - Episode 13 - How Does One Live Without Internet at Home?
Episode 13 is up, featuring Peter Wells ( fulltimecasual), Anthony Agius ( Decryption), Perry Liebe ( Pezza_Mac) and Colin Jacobs ( coljac)
Pete and Anthony are joined by new guy Perry and 2nd timer Colin. We nerd it up something shocking with chat of server grade virtualisation, Apple Remote Desktop, CPU instruction sets, our addiction to the Internet and a way to get rid of the DRM from iTunes Music Store downloads. Enjoy the intro song Funky Mac!

Hate to be the nerd with the ventalin puffer, but parallels also make products for linux and windows. They have workstation, compressor server, and compressor workstation. I also think you may find that the mac product was the last to join their list guys.
But great show keep them coming

I never heard of Parallels before joining Mac land - so there you go, learn something new every day.
I'm not so sure it would be as impossible as you say for Apple to make a VM of their own, but buying someone would clearly be a faster way to market. I'm pretty down on Parallels compared to vmware, though.

You guys do a great job, I only about this because we are about to start a server consolidation project at work to reduce the number of physical servers, and I had to research it and was pushing for parallels over vmware because I already had a license for parallels desktop, It helps heaps being able to run the soe on my macbook

From the Parallels website, it seems that they don't have a server product, just Parallels Workstation 2.2 for Windows & Linux, which doesn't seem to be in the same leauge as VMWare's ESX server software. Did your workplace end up going to Parallels for server consolidation?

I agree that the new ultra portable might be a replacement for the MacBook. Makes sense... and why would Apple pollute their product matrix further?
It could be the iPod mini > iPod nano all over again.

We will end up with vmware, which isnt a real issue - i wont be running servers from my macbook just our desktop soe so have 1 odd vm machine just for is no big deal.
Our governing department, want us to use virtual pc which is free but has less features then either vm or parallels. The government spends so much on crap then skimps on important stuff all the time

How Does One Live Without Internet at Home?
|
With great difficulty. One has to go elsewhere to access a connection. It's incredibly frustrating considering outside of the net I don't really have a life.
But... in terms of being one of the few people who don't have internet at home, I think I'm one of the lucky ones. Free internet just lives up the road at my bf's house.
