MacTalk Podcast - Episode 6 - Blow Your Load
MacTalk Podcast - Episode 6 - Blow Your Load

Episode 6 is up, containing sounds from Peter Wells ( fulltimecasual), Jedda Wignall ( Jedda) and Anthony Agius ( decryption).
We went through some of the more interesting 300 features outlined for Leopard, with some very insightful comments from Jedda, who has actually used Leopard and is now less restricted on his NDA. There's also chatter on the iPhone/iPod Touch SDK and a lot of other random bullshit inbetween.

Hi Podcasters
Have you considered a talkshoe episode where contributions can be made by Mactalk members etc to the show?

Is this possible with a multi-user/conference call type setup on Skype or iChat? Not sure of the recording logistics though..
And what ever happened to getting a segment with the Clockwork??
Personally, I'd like to hear a 10 or even 20 questions segment with a willing random MacTalk user who you would patch into the conversation via iChat/Skype, the regular 'casters would ask them the set questions, some minor discussion on each one, then say bye and go to the next segment of the 'cast.. think of it like a 'guest' interview segment on say Rove or something.
(disclaimer: by mentioning Rove, it does not mean I like it or watch it. just wanted to clarify.)

I like the idea of a skype call-in too. "Hi, long time listener.. I have a problem with my Mac"
What about taking questions or comments on IRC during the recording as well?

I don't really want to turn the podcast into defacto tech support - that's not what the podcast is about.
I do like the idea of having guests on though, but it's hard to line up availability of guests with when we record the podcast.
I also like the idea of having "callers" kinda like your favourite AM talkback radio station, hah.

In case I wasn't clear, I'm definitely not suggesting this, and I agree it would turn it into a help desk - what I'm suggesting is that you would ask the set 10 questions, similar to what you used to run on the main page when you'd email to/from a high profile/known Mac user..
1. When did you start using Mac's and why
2. Favorite or most used App
3. GUI or Terminal
4. Do you give a toss about the iPhone
5. ....
6. ...
7. ..

Ahhh, that is interesting too. I think it would even be well done as a separate podcast (but still part of MacTalk - so in the same feed, just a different file), just one on one with people over Skype/in-person.
Do you have certain guests in mind, or just regular MacTalk forum users?

Nah, just a random Forum user, though anyone would do really! People could relate to regulars that they have seen post before though.
I just figured it'd be something you could run each week, or irregularly if you need to fill 5-8 minutes in a slow week (i.e. no new news). Not sure it would need its own podcast, rather just a short punchy segment in the middle to break up the normal chit-chat/discussion.
I just thought it would be an easy way to bring in some of the better known site users (i.e. Currawong from .jp, the Disko, iSlayer, etc.) for a short stint, rather than tie up people for a whole 2hrs for the full recording. And you wouldn't be constrained by geography and distance.
Yes, agree it won't be easy to tie people down for the time when you guys record it, but once it's setup I would think it wouldn't be too hard. You'd just give someone a week or so notice and they could be online while you're doing it. I'm assuming it'd require a solid net connection where you record though.
food for thought.
