MacTalk Podcast - Episode 3 - Cheap Drunks
MacTalk Podcast - Episode 3 - Cheap Drunks

Episode 3 is up, featuring Marc Edwards ( Marc), Gareth Townsend ( Quamen), Peter Wells ( fulltimecasual), Jedda Wignall ( Jedda) and Anthony Agius ( decryption).
Episode 3 is dedicated to the Coopers family, for making this podcast far too relaxed.
We put a ban on iPhone and iPod talk, but the iPhone did sneak in for about a minute. Other than that, we talk about Adobe not being updated on Leopard progress, Intel's new 45nm CPUs, Carbon Copy Cloner, Apple turning evil, Logic 8 and a bunch of other apps.
The enhanced AAC version is up on the iTMS now! The MP3 feed is being added to iTMS still (maybe I didn't do it right).

Hah, I went to tell iTunes to download, and it was all but 5MB done! Will the wonders of technology ever cease to amaze? Shall listen tomorrow.

Guys, I hate to be a downer, but you really still need to do something about yr mic'ing. It's very unnerving to be able to hear Marc and Jedda so clearly, but have to strain to hear Peter, Gareth and Anthony.
Also, in one of the recent episodes of TWiM (Safe or Angry John), Alex and John Foster had a little rant about podcasting - things like sounding good, and being prepared. Worth a listen.
And of course, remember that you are actually doing something, while I am not; so props to you for that. Just trying to highlight areas I can see for improvement.

I'd have to disagree and say leave the sound as it is. The difference creates a strong feeling of dimension. Once again, great podcast, good humoured, informative and REAL!!!!!
P.S. Congratulations with the iTunes Podcast stats.

Good cast guys... Some topics for more app discussion...
Picturesque...
Office 2008 v iWork 08 and why a lot of people are moving back to Mail and address book and ical instead of entourage for the iphone integration and .mac integration and even more promises in leopard...
appresh and iusethis.com
cha-ching...
perian and flip4mac
tangerine and voice candy, which i only got into recently...
the pros and cons of aac or mp3 and id2.4 tags and getting a nice library full or cover art and metatags through coverscout and lyrics through harmonic...
cheers

i agree with gringo, when i was walking to class from my flat i was listening to you guys. There was traffic around so i had to have it fairly loud, and i found that sometimes i would have to turn it up to hear someone sitting far away, and then someone close would chirp in and it would nearly deafen me. I guess im just lazy and would like be able to leave the ipod in my pocket rather than have to frequently adjust the volume.
Other than that, a great podcast... took me a little while to catch on to the dongle thing...
I loved the joking about how being #1 hasnt gone to your head, lol.
And like The Architect.mac mentioned, I would also like to hear about what leopard is promising with .mac members... something about being able to access your stuff from anywhere.. and also control another computer? is that right? it would be great for support with my parents. Oh and i find myself going back to mail, ical and address book in preparation for my ipod touch and eventually iphone.
once again, well done guys... very interesting and i love that someone always asks for something to be explained. I feel i understand complex programs like logic and what they can do, when i really had no idea what they were before.. other than sound. I'd personally like to hear more about the pro apps apple offer and what you can do with them.
Cheers.

Hey there,
I enjoyed this podcast, definitely worth tuning into. May I respectfully suggest less bear and more notes for the next episode?
How about a "top 5" for the next episode - like "Top 5 must-have apps for switchers"?

absolutely, we still need to work on the mics!
there was a point where quamen grabbed decryptions head and twisted back infront of the mic!
i bothered to read the manual of the mixer and mics over the weekend, so hopefully the techical stuff will be sorted by next week, now we just need to work on how we all use the mics so they sound decent!
but, as we keep saying, this is episode 3, we're all rather new at this, give us some time to become comfortable!

Yeah this one went a bit long.. Mic use is improving - although while it was still slightly inconsistent I didn't find it difficult to hear everyone.
What happened to the discussed idea about having a special guest come on-board via iChat or similar.. ClockWork's name came up I recall.
Bring on #4!

Couple of things.
1) the uneven mic levels do add to the atmosphere and I definitely feel apart of it more so than any other podcast. very uneven not so good, a little uneven adds to the feel.
2) the transition from billings to logitech is abrupt. sounded to me as billings got cut off and the beginnings of logitech cut off too.
3) beer and swearing doesn't worry me. adds to the distinctly aussie feel which is oh so important.
All in all great stuff.
Chris
