Apple authorizes MMS on the iPhone, but not for US users
Thought this ones alittle interesting for the people wanting MMS.
Quote:
Swedish iPhone owners will soon have something they can hold over the heads of most other users of the touchscreen handset: an Apple-sanctioned way of sending and receiving picture and video messages.
According to a report published by Macworld Sweden, Apple has given the go-ahead to its regional wireless partner Telia to develop its own MMS application for the iPhone.
MMS (or Multimedia Messaging Service) functionality has stood out among a short list of glaring omissions from the otherwise cutting-edge handset. The cellular standard, which can be found on a wide variety of mobile phones, offers a simple means of sending multi-media messages that include images, audio, video and rich text.
Out of the box, iPhones only support SMS (or Short Message Service), which limits transmissions to short text-based message. This had lead some users to hack their iPhones in order to gain MMS capabilities, or attempt to emulate multimedia messaging through the use of special email address and the handset's built-in Mail application.
It's reported that Telia will be ready to push their MMS application into users' hands within the next couple of months. So far there's no word that Apple has approved similar applications for iPhone users in other regions.

I can only hope.
I am in agreeance with everyone, who says "MMS is a thing of the past, its crap, email is the way forward".
BUT
95% of my mates dont have email on their phones, so I can't send them pictures, and when they send me pics i have to go to optus' page to view.
urg.

If I had MMS? I'd probably use it. but considering I can use the twitterrific, facebook, and myspace apps, the need for MMS is less.. granted I can't really get all my technophobic bogan friends onto twitter or anything like that.

Its just another case where the iphone fails against a basic Nokia. I know apple choose simplicity of features, but out of the people I know only 2 people have email on their phones, and they have iphones. EVERYONE else has mms and they all use it. And Im not talking about my bogan mates, Im talking family members. Having a 11 month old boy you usually falls a alseep in the cutest positions its annoying to have to run through the house to find my wife sony just so I can send pictures to grandmas & aunty to make then go "ohhhhh" and bring a smile to their day, these two dont even use email at home.
If garndma can find it simple enough to use mms, how does apple think its a service to complicated to leave out?

It's nothing to do with being complicated. They're trying to kill it off since it's an outrageously poor quality service for an exorbitant price.
Death to MMS, I say!

I agree death to MMS, but thats because I enjoy the capability of email on my phone!
My poor mum, how I had to teach to SMS 3 times before she could do it, loves MMS, if she is out shopping she will take a picture of something she'll think I might like, and then buy it for me if i do, which is definitely a perk.
Whilst I dont use MMS myself to send pics, I think, if its as easy as installing an app, the iPhone should have it, not everyone has an iPhone! Or an email-capable phone!

It's easy for a carrier to make these kind of apps, considering they already have web sites to view your MMS messages. Push notifications in 2.3 (?) will make it work the way users expect.
This one looks fairly polished and will be customised and re-released by each carrier.

Oh sweet, I can see the 'MMS for iPhone, only 1.99* per message sent!'
*not included in your monthly cap, roaming fees apply, within carriers network only, only between the hours of 11pm and 3am, and only on weekends, and only on months ending in Q

yeah i used it a lot on my last phone, but now i've created a gmail acc for the wifes n95 (which is a right prick to use web on) hopefully we'll resume swapping pics. the ability to forward and delete individual sms would more use to me.

yup, as soon as this is out i'm going to hook it up. apple should really just make their own app or add it to the next firmware update.
i used to use mms with my old sony phone for silly and stupid stuff -- shot a quick picture message to mates if a stumble across a fail here and there to share, these days facebooks serves as my 'mms'. i'd use it if we had it, not shattered we don't have it.
