New Google app to use voice recognition
AppleInsider | Google voice search app for iPhone arriving shortly
This looks pretty funky - though I wonder if it will work with an Aussie accent. Every other voice recognition app I've used out there doesn't seem to like the way I talk.
As one would expect from Google, the GUI looks awesome - and the use of the accelerometer to into "listen mode" is a nice touch.

yeah it looks very cool.
no need to worry about the australian accent. just sing into it. have you ever heard an australian sing in a non-american accent ? hardly ever !
try singing a song with the words 'last' or 'past' and so on. go on try it.... you know you want to. LOL.
so...are you gonna look sillier singing to your iphone...or talking in an american accent?
but seriously - the iPhone is starting to look more and more like the 'apple communicator' ad from way back when.
SO COOL !
beam me up !

This was supposed to be released Friday US time.
It will be interesting to watch if this gets released in the US store and not Aus, due to our accents.
BTW, I just checked the US store and it hasn't been released as yet.

Thats the first thing i wondered about. I find OS X voice commands pretty good, bar when asking it to switch between Applications, at least 50% of the time it opens iPhoto rather than, Adium, Photoshop, Firefox for example.

Massive thing I just realised:
This is NOT a new app. This will be an update to the Google Mobile app freely available now. I realised this while watching the video on 9to5Mac.

Good work. That's probably a good thing, cos the Google Mobile App as it is is pretty useless.
Some speculation that maybe Apple might be delaying it's launch here:

Either way it's yet to appear.

I wish that they'd implement decent voice dialing as well...

Hopefully within 24 hours.
The demo of it working with all different accents holds me hopeful it will work with Australian accents:

I might be wrong, but this Cloud thing isn't really going to take off, is it?
Are we really going to leap off to the cloud for every simple thing?
If so, when do we get unlimited internet to make this all happen?
Have you seen the latest US download limits? AT&T are offering 20 GB and 100 GB plans. Witness the death of the internet economy.
