iPhone 2.2 BETA Adds Transport Times
Quote:
When set in Directions mode, Maps now offers three icons -- car, public transit, and walking -- centered at the top of screen, in between the "Edit" and "Start" buttons. Selecting the transit icon provides a list of transit choices that can include subways, buses, or a combination of the two.
A list of departure times and estimated commute times accompany each transit option. Once you select a particular method of transit, the Maps application will serve up step-by-step directions from your current location, usually directing you to your chosen departure subway or bus stop on foot. During commutes, Maps will specify when you should board or disembark from a bus or train.

Can anybody confirm these work in Australia (the transport timetable)?
Edit: It appears as well that any application on the app store that gets your location and sends it to somebody through email is useless now as there is a feature in Google Maps that does it for you.

I'd dare say it uses google's public transport integration.
I know its available in Perth, and not available in Brisbane

They won't, the same way traffic doesn't work yet and for the same reason: they're features on the US version of Maps only.

edit: oh, I didn't know Perth had this. There you go WA people, you got something before the east coast for once

Again, it's because Transperth makes all their timetabling information available for developers.

As a proponent of public transport, I feel that the more information available the easier it is for people to use the available facilities.

Hell yes - Translink suck balls. You'd think that having all the public transport services under one group would mean great things for implementation of technology like this, but no....
I think I'd wet my pants if I had this kind of functionality on the iPhone for Translink...

Same issues here in Melb. This is what happens when utilities get privatised I guess.

I'd love to see the government and public transport sectors be more progressive technologically, like Transperth. It makes sense really!

Not so, the private operators are for getting the data on Google Transit, it's Metlink that has said no.

QR & Translink have enough trouble keeping the trains on time... besides unless Google maps can say 'this train is full, wait for the next one' it wont be of any use.
traffic view for the trains, now that is a feature!
can you tell its Monday morning?

Translink suck..they dont even have an RSS for their timetables..
this will be a great feature if they could provide RSS feeds for their different routes!....
i guess they are still using paper and pencil...
