Thumbs up iPhone 2.1 is Out and Unlockable

If you have a previously unlocked iPhone you can safely upgrade to the new iPhone 2.1 Update without losing your unlock. The jailbreak will be gone however, so if you still want those third party apps like scrobble and cycorder you'll have to wait.

The unlock has nothing to do with the firmware per se.

The phone itself is unlocked and registered as unlocked with Apple (when your telco requests it).

If you have been officially unlocked no future firmware will undo that.

He appears to be talking about 1st Generation phones that are Hacktivated

Mine updated and became unactivated but the network unlock still works, another member here though has told me his is working fine on 2.1

I think the op means, if your 1st gen iphone is unlocked then 2.1 will not negate (is that a double negative?) the unlock, but you will lose cydia, installer and any of the apps installed via those means. Then once quickpwn is updated and released for 2.1 you can just use that to reapply the jailbreak if you want to.
