I notice that iTunes 8, when updating an application from the App store, now automatically deletes the old version's file and appends a version number to the newly downloaded file. Kinda nice that the local folder is now a whole lot tidier, better managed, and doesn't take up quite as much space. Old files are sent directly to the trash.
