Metro Melbourne / Metro Perth - iPhone public transport app
Metro Melbourne
Hi guys. My friend and I finally got our app through the long process of getting an iPhone app out to the app store. The app is called Metro Melbourne and the price is AU$3.99.
We've also submitted a free version as a demo for those who want to try it out first. The free version has around 30% of the trains to get you a feel of what the app can do.
The paid version now supports all trains, trams, and buses. Would appreciate it for those who get either the full version or the free version to give me some feedback on things that you might want in it or bugs and I'll do my best to get it into the next release. Thanks in advance.
Edit: We just submitted a version for Sydney and hopefully it'll be out within a week. Again, the initial version will be trains only, but buses and ferries are on it's way. The user interface is going to be the same as version 1.1 of Metro Melbourne so once ferries and buses are released, you won't have to go through a change in the UI. Will update again when it is officially up on the store.
================================================== ======
Metro Perth
We've just had Metro Perth approved by Apple and the price is AU$3.99.
Currently support trains, buses, and ferries

UI looks great. I guess this puts you right into competition with the iTransit guys.

Still love Itransit... but this looks great. I think there's room in this big city for both. The real shame is that metlink/connex/yarratrams haven't released one themselves, but is there any real surprise in that?
BTW as for feedback... an interface to tram tracker would be top on my list. Itransit already does that extremely well however.

Feedback so far:
- distances should be written as m and km, not Ms and KMs
- you don't need the time in seconds if it's always :00
- there's some odd sorting on train lines - I can't work out if this is a bug or a feature. Is it putting the closest station first?
Overall it's a well-done app and definitely worth the money. Congrats
Edit: and the displayed name (MetroX Melb) needs changing.

As much as the iTransit one is rather simplistic in look and design, this one has great potential (love the GUI - and agree with the suggestions made here by tcn33). As it lists the next five trains - which is very useful to plan ahead. I will buy this in a second when it includes trams and buses.
And this is a potential customer who rarely uses public transport...but this will be very valuable for those "just in case" situations (um, like last Saturday!)

Looking into that as we speak. Will put that into the next version.

We noticed that bug after we submitted the app to Apple. It's sorted alphabetically in the next version.
We're sorting out the name stuff as well as we speak

Not at the moment since they're a webapp for the time being. The benefits of the webapp are that you have a great amount of control on the data, layout etc which the native apps lack. So if there is a timetable change, we'd have to get people to update their app when that occurs. The good thing about the native app though is that you don't need an internet connection to retrieve the info which is handy when you're on optus or an iPod touch user. I'd be interested in what sort of native app Bok comes up with.

Not bad. As a native app it's a bit more responsive than iTransit. The only think I missed was not being able to look further into the future for trains, is that possible?

Could I suggest you just stick with station order?
Also, am I right in guessing the train lines map is a photo you took on a train?

Nice! I'll have to have a play when I get home.
Guess I don't have to be the first one to find out what happens when you charge for access to their data
Good to see more apps in the game!

Am I the only one that noticed the carrier logo for Telstra was part of a jailbroken iPhone? I'm surprised it passed Apple's Vetting process!
On the whole it's looking good guys

"Hello, it's Connex here - yeah, we're a bit concerned that giving people full access to our timetable when they want it, where they want it might actually reveal even further how shit we are at running trains. Stop making this app or we'll sue you - thanks and sorry for any inconvenience caused."

^note necessarily, drewbles. The developer may just have had 3g turned off when he took the screengrab (yep, unlikely, but possible).
