Is it just me or is updating apps a big pain in the arse?
This is the situation that has now occured three or four times:
So I'm out and about and notice the little App Store icon has a little red number on it - some of my apps have been updated!
With glee I go through the motions only to be told the updates can't be downloaded to my phone, but they'll be available next time I sync.
Next time I sync my phone tells me the new versions are downloaded but iTunes tells me due to a generic error they couldn't be installed.
Various reboots of everything involved don't solve the problem. Totally uninstalling/deleting said applications on both itunes and the phone, then re-installing the applications gets me updated the latest version, but it shouldn't be this hard.
Am I the only one with this problem?

This is possibly a bug in the current version of itunes as I have seen this a lot since itunes 7.7.1
Hopefully with itunes 8 coming soon this will get fixed

I haven't had any problems at all. My 3G connection dropped out while downloading the updates and it told me they would be available on my itunes at home when I sync... once I was in range of a WiFi network though it just re-commenced the download

Haven't done that iTunes upgrade yet but then I don't do upgrades because some halfwit program thinks it can run my life.
I use sotfware update to tell me what needs updating yes but I never permit it to do its download and install BS.
Particularly iTunes as this application seems to actually hate being through that pepper mill.

Yeah I'm sick of the phone freezing every time when I install an app, or when I go to Settings, it's a blank screen. Apparently Apple are looking at a fix for that as somebody did email the big cheese himself about it.

I feel your pain.
Check out my thread What the @#$% is up with the App Store?.
I'm having the same problems as you. In addition I have had my phone crash and or freeze or be stuck on the apple logo as a result of downloading apps directly to the phone.
Not sure what the issue is that is causing this but it could be because i have 30+ apps.
Since i have done a clean restore (ie: set up as a new phone) i have not had any problems and the app store program on the phone has not been prompting me that I have updates (not that i would be updating from the phone anymore anyway for fear of having to restore again).

I have the same issues also. Sometimes unchecking the app in iTunes so it is removed on the next sync, then checking it again and resyncing will fix the issue (albeit losing all the app's data in the process) but i have a couple of updates that I just can't seem to apply at all.
A full restore is just not a viable solution every time this happens

Welcome to my world of pain and frustration. Some apps just seem to hang. One thing I have fund is that updating through Itunes seems much quicker. Bring on 8.0

No issues here with updating apps, but i always get the infinite restore loop.
Yep bring on itunes 8. According to Kevin Rose earlier today, he says it has some cool visualisations.

I am not having any of these problems, but I do have the app store continually telling me I have updates, then when I try to download them it tells me I can't because I don't own the original software?
If I don't own it, why tell me I have an update available? stupid app store!

Apps
Some problems here with my iPod Touch.
Apps that worked fine prior to being updated now just crash.
How careful is Apple in checking the coding for these 3rd. party apps? It seems to me that some must be very poorly written. Apple either doesn't seem to recognise the problem, or doesn't care.
I'd expect this sort of sloppiness in the Windoze world. We're used to much better from Apple.

My apps don't crash, it's just that I update them in iTunes, but it still says that haven't.
