Not having visited the App Store in a couple of weeks I popped in today to see what's new.
WTF?
It seems every Tom Dick and Harry with no programming skills has decided to create some crappy application and charge some $ for it in the hope of cashing in like all those stories of the early App Store Apps.

Finding a quality application on the App Store now is like rummaging through a rubbish tip looking for a diamond.

As excited as I was about the App Store initially, this over abundance of utter trash is destroying the whole concept.

Can we have a sticky that people post links to GOOD Apps eg 1 stick for 'Best Free Apps' and 1 for 'Best Paid Apps' ?? This would save a lot of wasted time sorting through all the drivel on there.

Or you could wait for Can Touch This, the world's [strike]greatest[/strike] newest iPhone app review blog.

I agree with you drzeus. Apple should lift their standards on what to approve.

+1. I'm sick of the amount of crap on there already. And the amount of non-Australian usable software (New York Rentals and Swedish Guides) Are going up too. Apple needs to vet these more IMHO. They're greedy and just want the $99 from deveopers

Then they'd be accused of censoring content. They're damned if they do and damned if they don't.

Maybe they should list everything, but there should be an option where you can filter out all the apps Apple has tagged as "crap"

Yeah, i completely agree. It's become more the "crAppStore" than the appstore to me these days, i check Cydia more often with more excitement in finding something actually useful.

Just like the music store, you need to filter through to find the good stuff. It's a shame you can't get a demo version of the apps which makes it even more frustrating. Back to playing with Koi Pond...

Yep lots of crap on the appstore. It like sifting through mud to get to the occasional gold nugget.

Apple doesn't really exercise any quality control whatsoever. They have to 'approve' all apps that hit the appstore and it seems that the only thing this approval process does is slow down the arrival of actual useful apps and create an unnecessary amount of bureaucracy.

They seem let apps slip through and then removed them later. So really the quality of the appstore in general is poor. ie. 10 task apps (a function that should have been standard), 10s of fuel mileage apps, 10s of body mass index apps, etc.

However those apps that are useful and well crafted for the iphone are fantastic. More of these and less of the crap.

I've only bought 4 apps, three for $1.19 and Apple's fantastic Hold-'Em poker game. This is probably the best $5 I've spent in a long time, I've played it for many hours already and is great for a quick break from whatever your doing in the office. With this, I think Apple is signaling the kind of quality that is expected for a $5 app, but nothing else on the App Store comes close.

My other apps have been iWik for wikipedia, HangmanSim and Tents.
