Is there *really* no reminder app for the iPhone?

Hi all,

I've banged on about Apple's lack of reminder functionality before (especially when SonyEricsson had the functionality on their phones, including iCal synchronisation over 4 years ago)....but figured when the App Store opened, someone would surely share my pain and create such an app.

Seems not!

Please, can someone tell me if an app exists that does the following:
- Allows me to enter tasks
- Allows me to set alarms against each task

...THAT'S IT! I can live without synchronisation (although I still think Apple have left a gaping hole with this one, given iCal has this functionality), I can live without any fancy graphics...I just want to be able to add reminder alarms to my tasks, and would prefer not to do it by adding calendar events (as I'm currently doing).

This would have to be my number one used feature (next to actually making phone calls/sending SMS's) on all my previous phones. I still can't believe the functionality doesn't exist in the iPhone!

Appreciate any advice.

Cheers,
- Febs.

PS: The $9.99 "ToDo" looks great...but no alarms!

My partner has a similar issue.
She uses her mobile as an alarm clock to remind her to do things (take medication, be somewhere at a certain time etc), but has foudn that the built in alarms keep going and going until you press them off. At work she needs to leave her phone in her locker - alarms still go and don't stop until she finishes work. She's had to turn them off for now and use her PDA for alerts during work hours.

Anyone know a solution to this too?

You could try using the Calendar.app. It can still let you put in events but won't let you tick them off. It will alert you as well. I'm sure you knew this but thought I would say so anyway.

The only (far less than ideal) workaround I've found is using calendar events, setting a reminder 5min before, then deleting them when done (so they don't clog up my iCal).

It's a horrible solution, but I don't know what else to do!

I don't believe the current SDK will allow for this.

The Apple notification server would allow for network sent alarms in the future (possibly). I'd consider working on an app that does this in the future, but it looks like it might need to be internet driven for the alarms (yeah, I realise that sounds crazy!).
