SMS app idea...
I was thinking today about people who have developed super fast texting abilities on standard numeric phone keyboards, and wondered whether that might stop them moving to an iPhone.
Anyone think there'd be money to be made in developing an SMS app that uses a standard number pad rather than the QWERTY keyboard? The numbers coming out of the app store lately would suggest that any app can make a small fortune.
I can't exactly program, but could be keen to develop something with someone who does... If it's at all possible to write an app that sends texts.
Anyone keen? Or is it a rubbish idea?

I personally rather the full QWERTY keyboard the iPhone currently has.
I am now typing emails and SMS messages much faster than on my old Nokia.
But I guess it is each to their own and what you prefer.

Yeah, I'm a massive fan of the QWERTY too, but thought there may be people out there who are scared of change. Also, people with fat fingers may benefit from bigger buttons...

I still think the old method was faster, and way easier to use without looking
The iPhone autocorrect is good but is also annoying - adds way to much punctuation that wastes characters, (I'm, I'll, don't etc.)

Interesting idea, however I don't think apps are allowed to hook into the Apple apps.
Despite being quite handy with the old Nokia keypad, I was sold on the QWERTY layout after a couple of days. Other iPhone converts I've helped out have expressed frustration with the QWERTY touch system, but have loved it after following my advice of "just power through, dont be bothered by mistakes and trust the smarts of the phone." I've also found correcting errors so much faster on the iPhone than any previous phone I've used, bring up the magnifying glass thingo and Bob is your uncle.

This is one of the best features of iPhone SMS! Hopefully, it will teach the kiddies a thing or two about spelling and punctuation. Be economical in your choice of words instead.

+1 to that.
Took me a few days to get used to the full keyboard, and I do have fat fingers , but I wouldn't go for an app just to replicate an older workaround concept

It is good, but there are some times when it always offers me things and i dont realise until I have typed my whole message and realise it later. You should be able to edit the dictionary. Apart from that, I love the keyboard.

I personally think it's a rubbish Idea.
I find the keyboard very good, and I think those wiz bang texters will quickly adapt.
I find it very quick and much easier than old school texting.

Hehe..
Ok, I think the qwerty keyboard is cool. But the actualy SMS app really needs to be improved.
The keyboard lag needs to be destroyed and the lack of sms character counter or delete individual messages instead of the entire stream is annoying. Also, it shows when you send your messages but not the time a message was received. These should all be simple fixes..
