Wow. That's great.
Thank you MacTalk... I'm sure everyone here downloading it played a big part in it getting to #3!

If you're after a PVR, then probably the Beyonwiz DP-P1 or Topfield 7100. Both should be about $700 if you hunt around. The Topfield 7100 will require a firmware update to function with IceTV and the IceTV iPhone app, but I believe that's due for release soon.

If your main goal is to get content onto your Mac, then an EyeTV tuner would be much cheaper and a lot easier. From there you can export with one click to an iPod or iPhone.
Single high def tuners are about $150. You can also get dual tuner models, or buy two single tuners and have them record two channels at once (the EyeTV application can handle two or more separate tuners).

All PVRs that function with IceTV require an internet connection. The PVRs themselves either have ethernet or wifi.
(Actually, this isn't 100% true, there some older PVRs that used a USB stick to upload their EPG, but you don't want those... too much effort to do that every couple of days!)

Nup. The IceTV iPhone app talks directly to our servers. Your Mac running EyeTV will wake up and check with the IceTV server to see if there's anything that needs to be recorded. How often this happens depends on your EyeTV settings.
The behaviour on the various PVRs we work with varies. Right now a lot of them need to be left on. In the future they'll probably do the same thing as EyeTV does... they'll wake up periodically to check with the IceTV server for recordings.

EyeTV will wake up and launch to record. However, if you want EyeTV to keep checking for new recordings from the IceTV iPhone app then you should leave it open. So if you're using a Mac as a media center then just leave EyeTV open the entire time. The Mac will automatically sleep and wake up as required.

It should be like that... it's a bug that it's not. We'll update very soon to fix it.
More improvements are also planned.
