ok...so basically that "error" is just a null error...
no need to go panicky?

Not so much a null error.
iTunes thinks that it needs to give you the update. It doesn't. You are on a different firmware, with a totally different carrier update.
Just try the update and move on.
You may experience that popup to install the update some other times when you plug into itunes. just cancel it.

i think the lags u may need to wait till tomorrow to really confirm...remember any re-start of ur phone kills the lags...so for a proper test..leave it on for more than 2 days..and see if u get the "lag"
cant wait to go home..gosh only 10.30!! leaving at 4.30!!!
the wait..

Yep I am pretty sure it is and apple did state that users whom installed wouldn't be able to downgrade after installing it. Lookig for the info now and will post it.

It will be interesting to see if the Low Signal issue has been addressed in this update. Its was pretty wide spread.
I am sure some people here will be able to give some indications if their signal has improved noticably.

If anyone has installed the beta of 2.1 check out the Updated device piece in the pink section there seems to be no going backwards with the firmware you seemingly are locked into the beta

I am wondering if the error related to carrier settings is the 'lock to network' bit?
Has anyone who had this error tried a 'foreign' sim in their phone? Could this mean that all iphones are unlocked after this upgrade?
If you think about it, it kind of makes sense. You provide an update to the software, then over the top of it, you re-apply the network lock.

One nice thing I just noticed no matter whether I am inside or out I have full strength signal nice change.
The Push seems to be instant from a mate who called.
