Issues with iTunes Remote on iPhone 1st Gen 1.1.4

Ok I have iTunes remote on my 1st gen iPhone running 1.1.4 but I can't seem to get it to work. No matter what I do I can't seem to control anything. I have tried restarting my iPhone and the computer with iTunes on it, but nothing happens. No matter what buttons I press I just can't get the damn thing to work. Am I doing something wrong? I've attached a pic as I am getting very frustrated with this. I think I will have to get an iPhone 3G. Grrrr.

Did you put batteries in the remote? That's a common issue.

Is it activated? I think you have to take the tv back to harvey norman where they can perform the activation for you.

What do you mean by activation? I don't have a TV that I'm trying to control. I have iTunes 7.7 on my 20" iMac G4 and it just refuses to respond. There is no TV involved in the process at all.
