Connex does not operate the trams in Melbourne, they are operated by Yarra Trams.
EDIT: beaten by decryption

Oh god - a full blown app, that integrates with Google Maps, and can work out your public transport options (bus, train, tram), with GPS location finding would be supreme.

Now that the App store exists, can we please stop calling websites 'apps'?

Ok, we'll start calling them "webapps".
I wonder how hard it would be to make an app that does the whole GPS/PT assistant thing.

FYI, I've updated the site and verified that it works with the iPhone/iTouch, N95, and 6120. History is disabled for the moment.
Cheers,

This started off as a native iPhone application (developed using the homebrew SDK for jailbroken iPhones). It has since been ported to the official SDK with Google Maps and A-GPS integration.
That said, since this is unsanctioned by Yarra Trams, it's pretty unlikely that it'll end up in the AppStore. Still, it could still serve as a good example for other folks looking to build location-aware iPhone applications.
Cheers,
Leslie

I'm sure if you went and talked to Yarra Trams about this they'd be thrilled! A native app with GPS and Google Maps integration would be awesome.

Heh, I had the same idea, though i did it with a route->stop list. Also a proof of concept/intro to iphone webapps :-)
I like the idea mentioned above about getting nearest stop by GPS!

I'd be very keen to help out with some kind of melbourne public transport webapp or native app, it's something i've been hankering for, if only metlink and connex can get their act together! This Tramtracker webapp is a great start. Just curious, does Yarra trams have an open API? how are you getting the data?

OMG that is Incredible... I'm assuming it just interfaces with yarratrams website? You are a gentleman and a scholar. Well done.

It would be awesome if both of those webapps were combined. So you could search a code if you knew it. But if you didn't you could browse through the routes and choose a stop.
I've attached the tramTRACKER logo if either of you want to chuck it on the webapps.

Where's that tramTRACKER logo from? I really like the fonts used in it. Any idea what they are?
