Hey guys, I was on TPG and found a good plan for you guys buying the iPad.
Its the pay as you go one mid way down. Cheap Mobile Plans No Contract & BYO Mobile Phones
It's base cost is $1 a month and includes 50mb of data (150mb if your already with them) and then a extra 2.75cents per mb, meaning you can get an extra 40mb for around dollar. Seems pretty good for those who will not always be using it much as your just paying for whatever you use +1$.
What do you think? I might go on it for my iPhone as call rates seem okay too.

Looks pretty good. Even better if you're already with TPG.

Remember that TPG uses the Optus network though, so it might not be the best idea for Melbourne.

the website says TWO POINT SEVEN FIVE CENTS PER MEGABYTE, you have written POINT TWO SEVEN FIVE OF A CENT PER MEGABYTE

this means you think the data is ten times cheaper than it is

i understand this may be a typo, but the following words "meaning you can get an extra 40mb for around dollar" makes me think otherwise

EDIT: this means that 1GB over the original allowance is $27.50, you can get 1GB on telstra for $19, admittedly on a plan, if you don't want a plan, you can get it for $39

yeh sorry I meant 2.75 cents per mb, and that still adds up to around $1 for 40mb, what I said is still true.

2.75 cents = $0.0275

0.0275 x 40(mb) = $1.1 per mb.

Edit: Also, I rang up and yes its real/no typos, they just released it a few days ago apparently.

As I said, its not for heavy users, its more for people who will use it mainly at home.

Hi Macnev, Foxtrot 27 here, I'm a complete newbie, and a devout AppleMac user since the original 1984 Macintosh.

I'm really hanging out for the Aussie release of the 3G iPad, and I have a TPG ADSL modem plan at home. Question - Do you know for certain (or have a good idea) that the $1 (150MB) "Pay As You Go" TPG plan will work with the iPad?

Today, I both phoned and emailed TPG's mobile hardware division, and they claim that the TPG $1 plan will not work with the iPad - saying that "they do not have the Apple license" for this. In both of my enquiries however, TPG kept on referring to the iPad as a "phone" - which struck me as perhaps they don't know what the iPad is, or they don't know what I'm talking about, or they don't know what they're talking about - or all of the above.

In it's current format it will not work with an iPad, simply because it doesn't come with a microSIM - a requirement for the iPad.

Thanks Lutze. But are you saying that TPG can supply a conventional SIM card? If so, I believe, that with care, a conventional SIM card can trimmed down to become micro-SIM card. There is a YouTube video at: "make your own micro sim"

Ah, thanks Gehenna! My ignorance as a newbie I'm afraid. So the question remains - what are the chances of it working? Or does TPG actually need some type of licensing agreement with Apple? I recall Steve's keynote where he said "if you already have micro-SIM card, the chances are it will just work..."

I only have a 150MB/month data plan for my iPhone, and I never go over it. For me its email, GPS, maps, a few web pages and that's all when I'm away from my home WiFi. So if I can just get a few hundred MB for the iPad for say $5 per month with TPG, that's a lot better for me than Testra's $20 for 1GB which I can't ever see myself using.

Now that the iPad is here (Yay! i love my 32GB 3G!) has anyone with a TPG home broadband plan, now tried this TPG mobile data offering? Does it work?

(Not that it will help me, I actually ended up getting the $150 12BG Vodafone/365 day plan, which is not a bad deal at this point in time). Fox!
