Default Telstra Prepaid is spectacular.

Same price per month as I was when I was on Optus.

$60
250 free voice minutes
250 free sms
400 - 500MB data
$10 - 20 credit left for voicemail.

And I get service everywhere. Even here.

A hint for voice mail, call your own mobile number and enter the # and your pin, that way you don't have to use your credit for voice mail, it comes off you free voice

My mobile bill has gone from $90 with Optus to $30 a month with Telstra and works everywhere.

I'm paying half of what I used to on Optus too and have service everywhere. Moving to Telstra was the best decision I've made in a long time!

I am on Telstra prepaid, it is great esp when you can spend your credit on what plus packs you want!

Telstra iPhone plans suck! But the prepaid is great, and yeah , I am in the country and love actually having service! Thanks Optus for NOTHING!

Thanks. so I see the $60 does NOT include the 500MB.
At Telstra's gouging the 500MB would be $59 for 750MB.
Total cost $119/mth. no thanks.

I pay Telstra more than what I was paying on Optus, but fuck it - my iPhone actually works now.

That's not correct.
The $60 with 250 free mins and text means exactly that, the minutes and texts are free. Then you can use your credit to buy the data packs. It doesn't cost $119, only the $60.

The $60 does not include the 500Mb in itself, but allows you to use that $60 credit to 'buy' the 750Mb, if that's what you wanted to use all your credit for. Or you can purchase any of the other plus packs as long as the total doesn't exceed your $60 recharge.

ok,

250mins and 250txt $60, or
500MB $60, not both.

so if I wanted 250mins and 250txt and 500MB it will set me back $119, yes?

Ho Hum, The $60 gets you Free 250txt and Free 250 minutes...and then you still have a balance of $60.

With that balance you can buy data packs. I buy $10-100MB packs and buy another when I'm close to running out.

So, for my 300MB of data I use, I'd still have $30 credit left.

ie) If I recharge $60 I get:
250 TXT
250 Talk
and purchase 3 x 100MB packs for $30
I have a balance of $30.

...or.

By 6 x 100MB data packs =600mb and have 250txt and 250 minutes all for $60!

But at the end of the data $30 a months gets me by!

Some people are lazy, or don't do the sums, and why would Telstra care. You cant use it all at once, so get it in $10 bites, thats what the rest of us do.

I've been on Telstra prepaid for more than a year now and really, I could not be happier. Good reliable service with no confusion.

I kinda understand why gikka was questioning how the system worked, because anyone who has been with othe providers would be thinking the same way: and telstra's reputation for price gouging would tend to consolidate that thinking. In the case of prepaid though, Telstra has got it right. Your credit doesnt get touched until you run out of your extras, and if you don't run out, then recharge before months end and watch it roll over, too. I currently have almost $300 in credit just by doing this. over the past year.

Yup - counting down the 60 days till I can wander into T-Life and get hooked up (T minus 60 I suppose )...

Will probably only stay on prepaid for six months though, and then get an iPhone 4 on a subsidised plan (sucky though the plans are; let's see whether Mr Thodey fixes this in the next few months)...

Same experience here, best move i ever made. Plus the flexibility is a bonus. You just buy data when you need it and then you can use your left over credit for other things (texts if you need more in a month, more voice minutes etc).

Can also setup auto recharges for those that find having to recharge each month a pain!
