It gets charged on the next bill, yes so you'd pay for e.g $99 plus the cost of the international call

Yes, on top of the $99.

EDIT: Ack! Beaten.

EDIT: Anyone else spot any more errors? Don't want to upload new version if there are still errors.

Awesome matrix, but just noticed, there is an error the upfront cost of the 16gb iphone on the 24 month Optus $59 plan. Was confusing me for a while!

So for someone that is uncertain whether to obtain the iPhone outright or go on a cheap plan, is the best way to simply go on the Optus $19 plan, unlock it, and then use whatever sim card you wish e.g Telstra?

i don't get why the pricing matrix states telstra plans have so little data allowance... the previous plans here have $5 to $15 of data included. why would this change?

edit: sorry, forgot my manners. i really appreciate the effort that went in to making this cheat-sheet. thank you!

The irritating deal is that you have to create an account with both Telcos then (or a second and third if you are coming from another carrier). I'd be willing to pay an extra $50-$100 to not have to deal with that.

Hmm the problem is I have an Telstra 3G sim card on a business plan but am reluctant to buy the iPhone outright.

You could always contact Telstra and say "I'm already a Telstra customer who just has a SIM, no phone and want to keep my plan but buy an iPhone outright" - chances are they'll sell you one for the RRP of $1042 (for the 32GB)

If that is Telstra's final pricing, i'm not going Telstra for one thing. the best data plan is 7.5MB!!! Wait, what? Yes 7.5MB!!! It's not 1995 where it'd take a month to use that much on a prehistoric dial-up modem! Yet ignorant people are going to go with Telstra, then have to fork out millions for their monthly bill, then 'threaten' to sue.

Voda gets the vote thus far particularly as Visual Voice Mail and Tethering are accepted. The latter not a big one as it can easily be turned on for free with ANY provider. Its a pity that Voda don't have as good a network as Optus or Telstra. It's Virgin that uses Optus' network yeah? Speaking of which, hoping Virgin release their pricing tomorrow.

What? The best data plan is 9GB...

Read the options column, Telstra sells its data separately.

Ok so i can't read anymore than 7 columns. I'm sorry! Perhaps i'm just over the edge at the moment with Telstra since they moved my job overseas and thus i no longer have a job! Still, the Telstra pricing does seem to be very expensive as always.

Default Upgrade?

I bought the optus iPhone 3G on the $59 Cap at launch last yr what do you think their stance would be to me changing to the $99 timeless and buying the 16GB iPhone 3GS outright at $408?

Have optus released the upgrade options yet? Have i missed them?

I think the vodafone $69 cap beats the Optus $59 cap on the 16BG phone (which is really $67/month with 16GB phone) - $50 more credits, 300MB more data and can tether. If I pay Optus extra $9.95 for 200MB in order to get tethering with it, I pay total of $77 ($8 more than voda), and still only get only 900MB (100MB less than voda), everything else the same. So looks like voda for me (unless 3 comes up with a better plan).

BTW - NeoRicen - love your work! Minor error noted on $59 cap for Optus - next to $8/month on 16 GB phone - should say "($67 total)"

looking on optus website:

call rates charged per MIN
i.e. $59 cap, 80 cents per min

Do you mean if you use it for 3 secs, you'll be charge 80c rather than 40c (per 30secs like vodafone)?

Yep. Arseholes.

PS: Updated with final Optus call rates and notes (5 minute free calls to same account/free WiFi confirmed).

I'm wondering where the MRO option for Telstra has come from. Is it just a general assumption based on the fact all caps allow MRO?

I would love to pay $0 upfront for the phone and just pay it off over 24 months... If that's an option when Telstra finally does release their plans I'll be getting one tomorrow at lunch (TLife Bourke St - hopefully they will have some left)

Yeah it is, it's all I have to go on. I'll amend it if it turns out not to be the case.

Most of the Telstra info is speculative, since it's based off the documents MacTalk got which were only what the handset would cost on various plans. The call rates/options etc. are all based on what is available for the current caps and phone plans, but the final iPhone plans on Telstra may be different.

Asher is reporting that Telstra are expressly denying those leaked prices:

A spokesman for Telstra said pricing details leaked to the MacTalk website were not authentic.
... hopefully they'll provide their official prices soon!
