I was just down at the Optus George St line to check it out. (about 1:30am) I'm not an existing Optus customer, so was just checking things out.
Anyway, I got there just in time to hear the Optus employees go down the line and tell people that there are no more 16bg iPhones available on prepaid. Lots of ensuing whinging and "fail! Fail! epic fail!" down the line. One guy stormed off without a word the second the words left the Optus guy's mouth.
So it looks like at least at the George St store, they've limited how many they are selling on prepaid. Not sure if that was planned ahead or possibly a kneejerk reaction to an unusual trend in people buying and wanting to unlock immediately.. no idea, but not such good news if you were planning on getting the prepaid, unlocking and going on a 3 x-series plan.. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a similar story at other stores.. just a few set aside for prepaid.
I don't blame them though.. and it kind of sticks to the guys who will inevitably unlock and just sell on ebay for a profit.
Disclaimer: all hearsay and just my observations from about 5 minutes walking along the line.
