Question iphone outright - can I use current optus SIM

I am a newbie to Mac - looking at getting an iphone - currently on an Optus corporate plan for the next 12 months. When I called to discuss changing to iphone - I was advised to just buy one prepaid and stick my current SIM in it. Will this work and what issues may I have?

That will work fine - the phone is locked to Optus. You have an Optus SIM. No complications at all.
decryption is online now

be careful of the data rates however, we put my wifes sim in my iphone for an afternoon (she wanted a play) and got a $35 data charge for 2.6mb. )

the normal plans charge heaps for data (esp the apn the iphone uses) maybe call and see if they can add/change it for you,

You can buy data bolt-on's for accounts, business and personal. They are listed on the Optus website. They're not too bad value compared to PAYG

I can get various capped add ons for data (the current plan charges 0.5c/kb)
I am unsure how much I will use - any tips to estimate what sort of usage I will have? I do not anticipate doing too much downloading on my phone - I plan to sync up with my Mac for that sort of thing - also looking at using Mobile Me...

I was comparing getting one to just buying an ipod touch so I see out my current plan but most reviews seem to say go for the iphone.

Thanks for the advice so far.
