Help for new 3G iPhone

My iPhone is displaying iTunes symbol with USB cable signaling me to connect to iTunes. Kind of ruined my Cox Plate day!

However when l connect to iTunes it does not recognise my iPhone and displays a message that it does not recognise my SIM or SIM is locked.

A message then appears on my iPhone that it can not make or receive calls and to visit Apple - Support.

l have tried resetting the iPhone, removing SIM, power it off, fully recharging it but all to avail! The SIM card is working as l placed it in my old phone.

Any advice?

PS my iPhone is on Telstra 3G and is not locked to network.

What happens if you try to plug it into iTunes with no SIM Card in there?

I'd suggest doing a restore on it in DFU mode. With the phone off, press the home and power buttons at the same time for 10 seconds (make sure the phone is plugged in to USB prior to doing this). After ten seconds, let go of the power button but keep holding down the home button (don't take your finger off that at all) and wait another 10 seconds. iTunes should then pop up a message saying 'iTunes has detected a phone in recovery mode'. You will then be able to restore it to factory and it will re-sync with the last backup you did (last sync) with iTunes.

Good luck

Alternatively use the support you have from Apple by calling 133-MAC (622).

Also, was this phone activated by Telstra or did you buy unopened? It may need to be activated by Telstra by calling a number.

I had an issue a while ago, where the SIM worked fine in my old phone, but refused to work in the iPhone, popped a new SIM and it worked. Might be worth popping into a T store and trying a new SIM.

Thanks all for your help.

l ended up with an iPhone that could not be restored due an unknown error (1010), this is was an iTunes message.

After calls to Apple and finally going into T Store a new SIM was installed but unfortunately did not rectify the issue.

Telstra were great and the tech guy had seen this issue before and it can not be rectified so they gave me a new phone. So at least l have my beloved iPhone again and will fall in love with this one
