Blank Screen works but doesn't work
Hey my iphone just died on me a few days ago all i get is a blank screen, can't do anything to it i haven't tried resetting it but will do that when i go home, but the thing is it still rings when i have my sim in there and the alarm clock still goes off but i can't turn off the alarm or answer calls nothing works but the phone is still on think my comp still detects it this is after i updated from 2.0 to 2.1

is it an iPhone 3G, or the original?

have you tried plugging it into iTunes and clicking the restore button? follow the prompts and restore it..

Do a hard reset - press Home + Sleep/Wake switch until you get the Apple Logo, then leave to reboot. Mine does it as well, infrequently but still a pain.

This very same thing just happened to me about 30 minutes ago (2G iphone)... hard reset doesnt work, cannot be done. Plugged into dock and computer, compupter recognises it. I can't get the screen working.

I am trying a restore (having backed up) to see if that will work. I seem to recall having to do this once before on 1.1.3 and restore seemed to fix. its almost as if the iphone has forgotten what the hardware buttons are for.

[Edit] had an ooops, forgot to use the pwned file, caused a few errors, sorted now and all switches are working, and my screen is back. Its a pain in the derriere but the only way to get the screen happening again IME. Might be worth trying a restore on your 3G phone, and if you jailbroke, you will need to use that file, or go thru the whole process again.
