Im having a lot of trouble with my gmail on my phone, recently its just stopped checking my email, saying "Cannot connect to IMAP" everytime, and its really startng to annoy me because Mail is a feature i always use. Ive tried everything, all the settings seem right, it just doesnt want to play nice!

I use IMAP as well (gmail). This might sound dumb but when my iPhone is starting to act naughty I reboot it (Home+Lock). So far fixed all problems. Other than that, you may have a problem at the other end - does you computer also receive the same mail?

No idea. I can read mail but have problems sending it. Like with yours, with mine the settings seem fine and I had no problem with the same settings on my original iPhone. This is what I get now: "The connection to the outgoing server "smtp.gmail.com" failed."
EDIT: You have probably already checked this out, but in case you haven't, here is the Google iPhone help center. Check that things like the ports and SSL are correct.

slightly off topic - but I have m work emails redirecting to gmail so I can receive them on my iPhone (cause although my company supports exchange it doesn't have the full exchange server so doesn't support it on iPhone, only on bbery ). I have it set in gmail that it will reply with my work email address which is fine if I am replying in gmail, but on my iPhone when I reply it is still using my gmail address... anyone found a way to make this work? Does that make sense

Ok i fixed it, i had to delete the gmail account and add it again, and it works, but its VERY slow fetching mail so that annoys me now!!
Ive had a few issue with gmail lately, like one day all my emails in my inbox just dissappeared, so i did all the help topics and got to the point to contact google, so i sent the little form off, do you think i heard back from them? Not a word! It ended up that somehow all my mail had been marked as spam and was in my spam box But in the process of finding out what was wrong i decided to change my password til i found out what was wrong incase someone knew my password. Once i had found the mail in spam i tried to change password back, and google wont let me because it was too short! and ive had the same password for everything since i signed up to gmail, so now i have to go to the effort of remembering the new password

Yeaaah, using the same password for everything is really unsecure. Especially if that password doesn't stack up to Google's complexity requirements.

Well first of all it's probably against your IT policy. My old firm would sack you instantly for forwarding emails outside your firewall.
But anyway.... to send from another email address in the iPhone you need to set up the SMTP server for that address on the phone and use that. So instead of smtp.gmail.com you'll have smtp.yourcompany.com but chances are they won't give you access to their smtp server as it's a huge security risk.

Try working the a two-word theme-based description of the website into the password and use a common randomised mix of letters and numbers at the end. For a random example: lly1macforumk87 for mactalk, lly1goodmailk87 for gmail so on and so forth.

Errr...no....
I have my outgoing set up through smtp.googlemail.com and it works just fine. My understanding is that the servers in UK and Germany are called googlemail.com, because of a copyright dispute. Is this not the case?
