Went to 2.1 from 1.1.2 - How do I unlock etc.?
Hi!

A friend had his 1st gen 2G iPhone on 1.1.2 and SIM 'unlocked' with some sort of piggy-back SIM. By 'accident' he went straight to 2.1 firmware.

He has asked me for help, since I had my 2G unlocked on 2.0.1 - but since I went to a 3G I have been 'out of the loop' on 1st gen 2G iPhones, and especially on them updating directly to (and running) 2.1

I have had a search here, and also read the baby-steps guide to updating to 2.1 - but as I said above, this guy went straight to 2.1 (unmodified) firmware. So, that guide is no help.

Can someone please give me step by step instructions (or point me to some) for getting this iPhone unlocked and jailbroken on 2.1 ?

PS I only have access to a PC running Windows XP - No Mac !

I think quickpwn will fix your problem. There's threads around here somewhere, or google it, plenty of hits will come up.

Step 1. Do a factory restore to 2.1 in iTunes
Step 2. Run QuickPwn on your factory default 2.1 iPhone
Step 3. Run Pwnage tool on your QuickPwn'd 2.1 iPhone.
Step 4. Give yourself a pat on the back.

Please, just confirm:-

Version numbers of QuickPwn and Pwnage Tool

And, that they are Windows versions?

I only have access to a Windows XP PC at the moment.

I might be able to access my sons Mac for an hour or so - but I would need links to all the necessary MAC apps., files, firmwares etc. first.

No, it is the 3G that cannot be unlock, only jail-broken. The 1st gen iPhones can be unlocked, jail-broken, and ridden as ponies.

I have downloaded Windows QuickPwn 2.1 and am ready for my friends iPhone.
