Argh nuts. Just put iPhone through wash. Suggestions?
Stupid me.
I may or may not have just put my iPhone 3G through the wash.
I have taken the sim card out and plan to leave it in the sun for a couple of days.
Does anyone else have any suggestions about what to do?
I suppose you can laugh at me too if you want.

I don't think the iPhone can survive that.
And what do you mean, 'may or may not have'? You either did or you didn't.

I haven't heard of an iPhone coming back from being in water for a second, let alone a whole wash cycle.
You could try to dry it out by putting it in a sealed bag with a lot of rice and put it somewhere warm (not in direct sunlight)
Hopefully you have insurance on the phone or you will be up for a whole new iPhone

Put it in a bag of rice and leave it for a couple of days. Works better than the sun treatment.

Was it on at the time (better if it wasn't, bad if it was), and have you tried to turn it on (better if you haven't, bad if you have) since you put it through the wash?

In that case, get a replacement - tell the truth to the guys at Optus, share a laugh (at your expense).
Pay the excess - $100 (or whatever the excess is) is a cheap way to learn a lesson.

Just take it to the Apple Store and say it doesn't work, you should get a new one. Just don't say you put it through the wash.

Don't leave the phone in the sun as it won't dry evenly, put the phone into a bowl of dry rice and wait several days. I've done this with retired phones that I dunked into water, it does work
Since the iPhone battery is physically wired in, you may have toasted the battery & phone so expect the worst. If you don't have phone insurance, ya screwed.
Final suggestion: beg for pocket change

They might believe you but I'm sure when they crack it open they'll notice something strange.
If I'm not mistaken, the iPhone does have things inside that change colour when water has entered it (I think I saw it somewhere, don't quote me). So they'll know if it has been subjected to water.

I wouldn't lie about it.

Yeh it would have been in standby mode in my pocket. When i realised I did push the home button once to see if itd respond, which it didnt.
Anyway, I now have taken it out of the direct sunlight and into a bag of rice.
Thanks for your help thus far guys.
I'll now start to look into the insurance aspect.

good to hear that it is working. At least you took out the insurance as it covers damage from accidental situations such as this.

Nah it isn't working atm.
I have been reading some pdf about Optus' safeguard insurance and as far as I can tell this situation would be covered. I am half expecting Optus to somehow say that it isnt covered though
