Turbo SIM - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It became a bit more main stream with the iPhone. It basically allows you to have a network locked iPhone (but not limited to the iPhone) and be able to use whatever carrier that you want by making the phone think that you've got the right carrier SIM card.

This device, and those like it, use a small microcontroller (the original Turbo SIM used an Atmel ATmega128) to intercept traffic between the cell phone and the original SIM card, and modify this traffic based on programming stored in the microcontroller.
More specifically, the Turbo SIM can be used to spoof the IMSI number and authentication key (Ki) supplied by the SIM card to the network, allowing network-locked phones (such as the Apple iPhone[2][3], and more recently NTT DoCoMo and SoftBank phones) to be used on mobile networks for which they were not originally designed or permitted.

I did read wikipedia, it just says you can run third-party apps that were locked by the phone. If i'm getting no reception on my iphone through my Soul Mobile carrier is it recommended that I buy this to intercept the signal so I can get reception? I seriously don't know why I'm not getting any reception even on Optus prepaid. This is the 1st generation iphone btw.

You don't need to buy one if you have a 1st gen.
And if it is unlocked already.

I can't seem to get reception Huy everything else works except making phone calls and I'm forced to use the iphone as an ipod touch which is crap.

I suggest you forget about getting a TurboSIM as the option and look at
BabySteps Guide to Upgrading 1st gen iPhone to FW 2.1 with Pwnage
You might have had pwnage go wrong somewhere.

Yeh Anthony I've been to your house before. Last time I bought an iphone that couldn't connect to your imac and I said I was gonna buy the logic board and fix it which i did. Now I'll try to update to the new firmware 2.1 then. Can you PM what time you're available to\morow so I can come and drop off the iphone at your house?
