unlocking a 3g iphone ? help

I am in Thailand and will be for the rest of the year. There are 3g iphones available here, the locked usa network iphone. I want to buy, but the only local method offered to unlock is the turbo sim card option. I have read about this on the net and it looks to be a poor alternative.

I have found two programs: Ziphoneosx and pwnage that unlock/jailbreak.

My question is this, is it possible to unlock my us network phone so that I can use any sim card, and access the itunes apps store, and not have any hassles as a result of the unlocking? If so which program of the two above (or any program) is best. Is there a step by step guide for dummies for this process?

Many thanks.

At this point, it is not possible to unlock a 3G iPhone whatsoever. However, it is possible to jailbreak them, so you can still use it as an iPod, Safari, etc.

Get someone back home to buy you an optus Prepaid, unlock it and send it over to you. They've just started showing up in shops.

I bought a rebel sim card about a month ago, but I'm not very pleased as it will randomly lose the signal for 20-30 seconds then come back. I've read about this new iPhone 3G software unlock on a few blogs though who say it works great, so I'm thinking about buying it. It's cheaper than the rebel sim card was, at least.

Sounds too good to be true, that website.

I would stay away from it until there is confirmation of a software unlock.
