You have to uncheck the "Activate the phone" check box in the general tab.

Thanks for the quick reply. So I should start again and try jailbreaking it again?

Yes I would start it over again, and do it in Expert mode but make sure that activate check box is unticked.

Restore will fix it, you can jailbreak again following NathR32's advice and should be error free.

Ahhhh awesome. It's all fixed now
Thanks guys. Was really freaking out. I've spent the last 2 days contemplating jailbreaking, but feared it might go wrong and i'd be left phoneless. Then I did it...and it didn't work. Guess I should have read the instructions a bit better.

Is this different for a 2nd G iPhone?
iClarified (link below) shows 'Activate the phone' as checked in its guide for unlocking a 2nd G iPhone.

pwnage really should grey out the option for the 3g iphone, how many times has this mistake been made? Not the users fault, the option just shouldn't be selectable.

Yeah I agree. Everybody who has an iPhone 3G has it on an official carrier unless they're using it as a fat iPod Touch with GPS - in which case they might want to check that box. It might change in the future though if/when they come up with an unlock for the 3G.

This is a new question, but you guys know what you are talking about.
I am in Thailand and will be for the rest of the year. There are 3g iphones available here, the locked usa network iphone. I want to buy, but the only local method offered to unlock is the turbo sim card option. I have read about this on the net and it looks to be a poor alternative.
I have found two programs: Ziphoneosx and pwnage that unlock/jailbreak.
My question is this, is it possible to unlock my us network phone so that I can use any sim card, and access the itunes apps store, and not have any hassles as a result of the unlocking? If so which program of the two above (or any program) is best. Is there a step by step guide for dummies for this process?
Many thanks.
