This has been asked over and over and over and over and over and over, and I'm sorry if I'm sounding harsh here but honestly, it's in every 'Optus' thread on MacTalk. There's nothing specific to any type of plan. We're all in the same boat. So here's the low down (and I hope people read this instead of creating more threads about the same problem)
Optus' online system sucks. Online balance only shows raw data, without plan discounts applied. You can work it out manually if you want to, adding up the costs for usage, taking that from the total, finding out how many free txts you have and taking those from the total, etc, but this isn't recommended as more often than not you'll turn up a number that's different to what you'll get on your bill.
Some people can't even get that far because they're on the old billing system, with an 8 digit number, and get a message that more or less says "Sorry, your account is still being set up".
A few people have been successful in finding out what their remaining usage/call costs are by calling Optus customer support, but I'm personally not bothering with it because I wouldn't trust Optus as far as I could throw them when it comes to finding out information. Other people haven't even been given an answer other than "sorry, we don't have access to that information".
We're all in the same boat. It sucks BIG time, but we all signed the contract where I'm quite sure it stated we would not have the ability to check our usage, so unfortunately we're stuck with it until Optus decide to launch their usage checking system, which (if you have any faith in Optus at all) has been stated as 'a few months time'.
