Iphone Phone Call Screen Issue [SOLVED]

Hi Everyone,
I've been using my Iphone 16g White pretty succesfully over the last 3 weeks with no real complaint, it's still running the 2.0 software and I haven't jail broken it or anything.

Over the last few days, i've noticed an issue starting to arise, and that is when the screen turns off during a phone call, when i take the phone away from my ear and hold it in my hand the screen Has NOT been turning back on everytime... Hence i cannot end the call.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? I've switched the phone off, and tested and it still does it on occation, and noting seems to awaken the screen when it happens (Touching screen or home button) you kind of just have to wait for it to catch up....

Anyone who can shed some light on this, it would be much appreciated, should i box the thing up and send it back? (Hardware fault) or do i take the plunge and hope the update will fix it (Software Fault)

Cheers

-Chris

You sure you aren't blocking the sensors with your hand/fingers when you take your phone away from your head? Just checking, is all.

They are at the top left hand side of the phone, next to earphone. You can see them in very bright light.

The sensors are just next to the speaker on the front facia of the phone if you angle the phone in the light you might be able to see two small circles to the left of the speaker grill.

These are the optical sensors used for proximity detection when you place the phone to your face.

Some people have been known to cover them accidentally I don't see how

Also some cases that either aren't designed for the iPhone 3G or are badly designed sometimes block these sensors partially as well resulting in the same problem.

I am experiencing the same issue with my brand new iphone 3g (white) and I don't think I am covering the sensors. Smithy did you figure out how to solve this?

Many thanks
