No data when on 2G with new iphone 3G - optus issues again?

Anyone else not getting the optus data signal when on 2G with the iphone 3G. I updated to the new firmware, got the usual carrier error message, but since yesterday unless I switch to 3G I cannot use any data services, says I am not connected. My wife's phone is doing the same and she hasn't updated to the new firmware yet.

It's annoying, anyone else have this isue and is there a fix?

Thanks

Sorry to Hijack, I've been searching the forums but I haven't found an exact answer...
Is 2G data covered in your 3G cap? Or are you charged an additional cost once you go off Optus's 3G network?

I wasn't aware that Optus or any carrier differentiates between 2G or 3G when using data, doesn't the cap cover data usage regardless of whether it's 2G or 3G?

My cap is the $79 with 700MB of data, it's not a seperate 3G cap if thats what you mean. Didn't know that was an option. I use 2G to save battery life unless I need to get online or download apps.

This only happened yesterday and I have had the phone for 3 weeks without issue and now it's back, I suspect it was just an Optus issue.
