iPhone & non apple headphones

I have recently gotten my new iphone and I have never really liked the apple standard headphones, so was happy that the new iphone body shape now accomodates 3rd party headphone jacks comfortably (or so I thought). However - when I insert or remove the headphone jack, it seems to be really forcing the socket - I am concerned that the connections will become damaged after repeated use.
Has anyone else noticed or experienced any problems with the headphone jack fit on non apple headphones ?
Sorry if its been asked before
