Gmail IMAP issues

hi I've got two gmail accounts which I have just switched to IMAP from pop. I have configured it on mail 3.3 on leopard which works perfectly fine, web interface works perfectly and inboxes, drafts and sent mail syncs between them fine.

The iPhone is synced with mail and all functions work fine except for one thing. Sending email from the iPhone on one of the accounts causes the mail app to crash. I can compose but it crashes at the point you hit send. Sending on the other account works perfectly though. Pop is disabled and IMAP enabled on both gmail accounts. Going thru the mobile version of gmail on the iPhone safari works perfectly on both accounts so I have narrowed it down to some kind of problem with the mail app on iphone.

Any ideas?

Restore to 5A347 (newer firmware)?
Reset iPhone (iPhone OFF, iPhone ON)?

POP/IMAP is for incoming mail so shouldn't effect sending mail.

What do you have as the outgoing mail server on your iPhone?

It should be smtp.gmail.com

hey guys, yes I set it up according to google's instructions for both accounts. SMTP server is smtp.gmail.com port is 587 and it is configured to login with my gmail username and pass. The exact same settings are used for both accounts so I have no idea why.

I restored it yesterday to the latest firmware, and have just reset it twice to no avail.

Did you put the "@gmail.com" in the user name, not just the username itself?

That is really strange how it is affecting just one of the accounts. Try disabling one or the other and see. Test each one individually again.

Though it seems as if you've already narrowed it down to the single account which should be identical to the other (apart from username).

Try removing that account, then adding it again/recreating it.

the username and password is correct. I have just removed the working account leaving the non-working one by itself on the phone. Still doesnt work Must be some strange firmware bug as this account is perfect outside of the iphone.

Same Problem

I'm having the same exact problem. I'm assuming its a bug in the iPhone 2.0 OS as I didn't see this problem when I was trying out MobileMe. For now I have just set up a different SMTP server. Its slower but at least it works.
