iPhone volume TOO LOUD! (for once)

Hey peeps, I have a problem that is kinda the opposite of what everyone else has been having.

The iPhone is meant to have two different ringer volumes, one for the volume of the speaker when the phone is ringing, and one for the volume that is pumped through the headphones when the phone is ringing.

Now, the volume of the ring tone that is pumped through my headphones is so loud I swear soon my brain will explode - in fact I have a headache from it as I type.

This is an original iPhone running 1.1.4. Has anyone else had this problem? And how do I resolve this as I think I'm going to murder something soon

Thanks in advance,

Jeff

When you have the headphones plugged in, press the volume buttons on the side.

Yeps. I've tried all that. Both the buttons on the side and the sound setting under Setting>Sound>Volume.

I have also tried even editing the .plist file. When looking at the plist file tho it appears that there is only one setting for the ringtone volume which is strange...

All with no luck whatsoever unfortunately

Are you using in-ear or other non-Apple earphones?

I have the same sense when I enter the passcode with my Ultimate Ears in my ears. So as to not deafen myself I either toggle the mute button or take out the ear buds before I enter the passcode. I reckon the volume is set for standard Apple earphones.

Yeah, I am using in-ear headphones with a inline microphone. However, if I recall correctly it used to work fine before...

I have tried with the original headphones, and even with the originals it does not allow me to have the different volume for the speaker ringer and the headphone ringer.

So when you press the volume buttons on the side while your headphones are in, does it come up with an icon on the screen with 'headphones' written above it? That's what's supposed to happen. Also, you could try turning sound check on. The ringtone should be about the same volume as the music you're listening to, unless you have an abnormally loud ringtone.

Yep thats what happens. When the headphones are plugged in and I change the volume, it does say that its changing the volume for the headphones, and then when I unplug the headphones and check the volume of the speaker ringtone it is the same low volume of the headphones. Then when I change the speaker ringtone volume it changes the heapdhone ringtone volume.

I have sound check on and have since day 1

You'll just have to turn down the sound when you plug in the headphones, then. If you listen to music with the headphones, this won't a problem, as you will automatically turn the music volume down to the desired level. If you're not listening to music, but still have your headphones in, you'll have to remember to turn the volume down.

But thats the thing, when I am listening to music only at a soft level, say 30%, the ringtone still blares out at 75% of the volume through the headphones.

Now that I have upgraded to OS 2.0 it is working a little differently in that when i am in the settings volume menu and i plug in or unplug the headphones the volume slider changes, but the actual volume itself doesnt change...

Its quite strange really.
