I have been working getting WPA2 Enterprise EAP TTLS with PAP working today using the iPhone Configuration Utility.

It is quite simple to do but the annoying thing is you need to put the mobileconfig file on a web server or email it to the device, of course both of these activities require connectivity. So unless you have access to your email or a web server via 3G its a pain to do.

I am trying to figure out the syntax and structure of the mobileconfig file to push out proxy server details at the moment.

I just created a new profile for my home wireless network and pushed it out via a gmail email, worked 100%.

With the exception of the proxy config.

The proxy config cannot be set from the GUI or Web based iPhone configuration utilities at this stage.

The configuration profile format is available in this file http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/...ment_Guide.pdf

Proxy settings are on page 58.

Yeah but I can't figure out where you put those tags/directives within the config file, it just says a top level <dict> tag.

Trying combinations now at home, but not having much luck.

My config file wasn't able to get me on the wireless network, even after I added on the certificate in the package. It just keep asking for my password and never got connected.

Well ITS should support that, they support Leopard connection problems... unless the STRIP is on a different network?

Huy - thanks for going to the trouble. I'm tossing up between a Touch, iPhone and nothing right now, so it is very useful.

Can you just try to clear up for the simple-minded (ie. me) exactly what you expect the Touch should be able to do at Sydney University (provided you're a student with a login account and appropriate funds)?

[1] Check university email through the mail application.
[2] Check any IMAP email through the mail application.
[3] Use Safari to access the intranet - eg. check for a book in the library.
[4] Use Safari to access the internet.

[1] No external Internet. No Mail. You can check your uni email via Safari (internal network, the intranet).
[2] See above. No Mail. No Internet. No IMAP.
[3] If you have a laptop, and you are on the USYD wireless network then (without Cisco VPN) you will be directed to Welcome to IT Assist - ITassist - The University of Sydney whenever you try to go anywhere. This is the same thing that hapens on the iPhone and iPod touch. No library website, as far as I remember.
[4] No Internet.
It is pointless for you to get an iPhone or iPod touch, if you wish to:
a) Use Mail.
b) Use the Internet.
c) Use the library website.

The ONLY thing you can do, even with the 2.0 software (from my tests) is connect and obtain an IP address. You are prompted for your UniKey login/password however you do not use the cache/proxy and yes, I have funds in my account and it isn't locked.

I was hoping it would work with the iPhone 3G and 2.0 firmware, but in my testing, it is as crippled (and similar to) not having the Cisco VPN software on a laptop. No Blackboard, No WebCT either.

Yeah, it's now working on our TTLS-PAP network.

Add the settings and certificate (copy it from the Keychain on a Mac that you have already connected) to the iPhone Configuration Utility. You can then email the settings to your handset and press install.

No handset side configuration yet.

Then set the proxy once you are connected.

Thanks, Huy. You've just saved me $500 (unless I decide to buy a Macbook Air instead, in which case you've cost me $2000).
