iPhone not making noises for SMS
Hi all, with my new iPhone when I recieve a message it will sound and vibrate, a short time later when I recieve a message it only vibrates and displays the message on the screen. The only way to get messages to make noise again is to restart the phone, which this problem happens again a short time later.. The ringer is set to full and the silent switch is
Off

Hmmm I have narrowed it down to the 'tritone' SMS alert, all of the others seem to work fine, a restore is in order maybe?

Probably buggy iPhone 2.0 firmware. I should think 2.1 will fix that, or even 2.0.1

Mine's having a similar issue. If I am listening to the iPod and I get an SMS it just vibrates but if I get a call it cuts out the music and plays the ringtone. Does anyone elses do that? It would be nice when i'm on the bus to know if i'm getting an SMS through my headphones like with ringtones...

Mine suffers from this as well. Sounds on the whole seem very hit and miss.

Yep, SMS sound is set to 'on' but has stopped working.
Gah.

So just wanting to confirm...is there meant to be a SMS noise when you're listening to the ipod? Because I've never heard it.

And I switched it on and off yesterday. Still not getting an SMS noise when listening to the ipod. It just vibrates.

I had the same issue...
was disappointed to see I couldn't use a custom SMS sound for SMS though - after I downloaded a couple of 'ringtones' which would make for louder / great SMS notifications!
All of the Apple ones are very quiet - and if it is in my bag / pocket I rarely hear them. It will be interesting to see if the update 2.0.1 that I just installed fixes this issue or not!
