iPhone Email Data Usage Help! PLEASE HELP!

Hey guys,

I'm planning on getting the optus 19 a month plan...including 100MB downloads a month.

people say conserve data by turning off the autocheck function in the mail client, but honestly, does that really do much?

my question is this: how much (approx) data is used up by checking your email automatically but not getting any new mail through the built in application???

please answer soon guys... need to know

With 100MB a month, that's only 3MB a day (approx).

If you are constantly querying the server and checking your inbox every 5 minutes or 15 minutes - whatever the default is, then yes it will actually consume some kilobytes which add up over the number of times it is checked per day, per week, per month...

I would set it to check Manually, if I was you (on 100MB a month).

Going Over iPhone Cap Data HELP

on the 19 dollar optus cap you get:

$50 credit
100MB downloads

If i go over the downloads...they are charged at 0.35 cents a mb...does that come out of my credit? I thought i read that somewhere...or is that charged on top.

Sorry about the hasty typing...sleep deprivation...

On your specific question, not sure. If you're on Optus though isn't it free data for the first month? You could monitor your usage (it tells you the amount of data transferred in the settings) and then see how much you are using without getting a shocker of a first bill.

If it's any help at all (probably not)... I set mine up on WiFi, and the only thing I think it's used 3G for is checking emails every 15 mins when I was out for about 5 hours. I got 4 smallish emails in that time and played around with the GPS thing a bit, and I've used 1.6MB.

It won't come out of you credit I believe.
But the iPhone has a section that counts cellular network data usage, upload and download. Just got to make sure that the sum of those each month is under your data limit.

About 100kb in total... actually thinking about it I also was on the SMH website, so actually probably most of my usage was that and the GPS (which downloads the maps from google) rather than emails...

Best thing is to test it for yourself for free!

And yes, I got mine this morning... it's fantastic!
